WILBURTON — The phrase, “miraculous comeback,†is heard quite often in the world of sports. The Leflore Savages basketball team experienced one Monday at the Eastern Oklahoma State College Classic at EOSC's Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse.
Down 44-31 entering the final period against the Battiest Panthers, the Savages outscored them 24-9 in the fourth quarter to snatch a 55-53 win away from Battiest to advance to the championship semifinals of the gold bracket.

The Spiro High School basketball teams did not have much of a rest after tonight's season openers at Eufaula as they will begin their three-day stay at the H.B. Stewart Classic in Greenwood, Ark., Wednesday afternoon.
Spiro will play Siloam Springs, Ark., at 4 (girls) and 5:30 p.m. (boys) Wednesday afternoon, then play host Greenwood at 7 (girls) and 8:30 p.m. (boys) Thursday night. The Lady Bulldogs will end their three-day stay with a 4 p.m. Friday game against Ozark, Ark., followed by the ‘Dogs' contest against Ozark at 5:30 p.m.
The Poteau Lady Pirates freshmen capped their opening week of basketball by winning their own tournament Saturday afternoon, beating the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs 47-33.
The Pirates lost the third-place game 30-26 to come in fourth.
In an all-LeFlore County battle, Heavener's boys won the consolation championship as the Wolves edged the Spiro Bulldogs 36-31.
The Spiro Lady Bulldogs lost 35-22 to the Roland Lady Rangers in the girls consolation title game.
