VIAN — The 2012 portion of the Poteau High School wrestling season did not get started the way the Pirates had hoped as they lost a 60-15 dual decision to the Vian Wolverines Tuesday night.

The Pirates (9-5 in duals this season) got three wins, two of which were by pins coming from Tyler Tustin (126 pounds) and Daylon Brewton (heavyweight). Poteau's other win came on a decision by Chevy Galetka in his match at 170 pounds.
GLENPOOL — Several Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members competed at last weekend's Glenpool Tournament, with three of them claiming gold.
Grant Ford, Seth Ford and Allison Hartley all won their weight class titles in their respective division.

MUSKOGEE — Seven Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members participated in last weekend's Berryhill New Year's Tournament.

Race Williams, Dauntay Warren and Caden Warren also participated, but did not medal.
Happy new year to everyone! I welcomed 2012 in the same way I have been spending New Year’s Day for the last several years, taking my boys to a ball tournament. My good friend, Gary Gibson, coached a seventh-grade team, and Dallas Ward and I coached a sixth-grade team for a little weekend action in Tulsa. We have lots of great parents from here who drive their sons all over the two-state area to get their kids all the playing time they can. I would like to thank them because it takes several kids to make a team. We couldn’t do it without each other.
