PANOLA — Leflore's Caleb Smith hit the twine for 40 points as the Leflore Savages dominated the Panola Bearcats for a 67-35 win — and their fifth straight victory.
The ’Cats only trailed 23-13 at halftime, but the Savages outscored them 34-2 in the third quarter to take a 57-15 lead into the final period.
Smith's 40 points came in only three periods.
“He could have probably gotten 70 had he played the entire game,” said Daniel Caldwell, Leflore's first-year coach.
BOKOSHE — A pair of Miranda McFarland free throws in the waning seconds helped the Bokoshe Lady Tigers to a 53-51 win over the Arkoma Lady Mustangs on Friday night at Bokoshe Tigers Fieldhouse.
With 12 seconds left, McFarland hit two charity tosses to give the Lady Tigers a 53-51 lead.
The Lady Mustangs had one last chance to tie or win the game, but did not get a good shot off.
I hope you all are as pumped for this week as I am. I think fans will see some very entertaining games, and will see some shockers.
I for one am glad that the entire county is getting in on the action this week. Most of the action will be here in the central part of the county — Wister, Carl Albert State College and Poteau High School. The semifinals will be Thursday and Friday nights at Talihina, while the finals will be in Spiro.
