The Pocola Indians football team snapped a three-game losing streak last week, beating the Wilburton Diggers 66-27 for its first District 2A-6 victory.
“I was so proud of our kids,” Pocola coach Rick Lang said about last week's victory. “We executed on a night when we needed a win. I challenged the kids. They came out and we had 483 yards of offense. They executed — and we got to play everybody. It was a great win for us.”
The Arkoma Mustangs were looking to extend their winning streak to four games tonight with a home non-district game against the Boulevard Christian Patriots at Mustang Field. Instead, the locals will have an open date as the Patriots have canceled due to lack of players.
“It kind of worried me when they called us and said that they only had nine players the game before they played Bokoshe [which beat the Patriots last week 54-6],” Arkoma coach Mark Weatherton said. “I guess they got some banged up in that game, and the same thing happened last week against Bokoshe.”

Alston Washburn took his first deer with a bow last week near Panama. He is a student at Wister and likes to crappie fish and deer hunt. That’s my kind of guy. Shooting a deer with a bow and arrow is not an easy feat, and it definitely isn’t for everyone. I’m really proud for him. Good job, Alston!
