HEAVENER — In a battle of cats and dogs, the cats got the better of things in Friday nights District 3A-8 contest at Harvey Stadium.
The visiting Stigler Panthers completely dominated the Heavener Wolves, winning 61-7.
The Panthers scored on all eight first-half possessions en route to a 54-0 halftime lead.
THACKERVILLE — In a battle of top 10 teams in Class C, the fourth-ranked and homestanding Thackerville Wildcats knocked off No. 7 Arkoma 66-22 on Friday night at Wildcat Stadium.
The Mustangs (4-3 overall, 4-2 in District C-4 play) were down only 26-22 at halftime, but were outscored by the undefeated Wildcats (7-0, 5-0) 40-0 in the second half.
ANTLERS — Pocola lost a heartbreaker here Friday, leading until the final six seconds of the game before Antlers wrangled a touchdown and a two-point conversion to avoid overtime and win 42-34 in a District 2A-6 contest.
The Indians (2-6 overall, 1-4 in district play) led 14-8 after the first quarter, 28-16 at the half and 34-28 going into the final quarter.
PANAMA — It came down to one play, and fortunately the Hugo Buffaloes did not make that play as far as the Panama Razorbacks were concerned.
The Buffaloes missed a game-tying extra point on the last score of the game with 15 seconds left, and the Hogs escaped with a 37-36 victory in a District 2A-6 game Friday night at George Ollie Stadium to celebrate Senior Night.
VALLIANT — Spiro scored on two long touchdown passes in the first half and took a 21-0 lead at Valiant Friday night en route to a 40-0 District 3A-6 victory.
HAILEYVILLE — The Talihina Golden Tigers notched a 39-0 District A-6 win against the Haileyville Warriors on Friday night.
The win sets up a battle next week between the Savanna Bulldogs and the Golden Tigers (8-0, 4-0 in district play) at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at Doc Robinson Stadium for what will likely be the top seed of the district, and possibly the outright district title for the victor.

MULDROW — The Poteau Pirates returned to their winning ways after they had a major hiccup last week against Tulsa Cascia Hall. The Pirates were focused and in a groove as they struck early and often. Senior quarterback Jace Pitchford threw three touchdown passes, had a kick return for another score and a 64-yard dash as the Pirates routed the Muldrow Bulldogs 42-3 on Friday night.
The Poteau High School cross country runners, other than those who participated in Thursday's Vike@Nite at Carl Albert State College, have been idle of competition for almost a month. They haven't ran since the Oct. 10 Claremore Invitational. The Chili Pepper Invitational was rained out on Oct. 5 at Fayetteville, Ark.
So, needless to say the runners are chomping at the bit to get back on the course once more. That chance will happen at 1 this afternoon at the Class 4A Regional Meet at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.
Although the high school football playoffs don't begin until Nov. 15, they might as well begin tonight for the Heavener Wovles.
The Wolves (2-4 overall, 1-3 in District 3A-8 play) are in a must-win situation tonight when they entertain the Stigler Panthers (5-2, 3-1) at 7:30 p.m. at Harvey Stadium. If the Wolves want to keep their playoff hopes alive, a win tonight is needed.
