McALESTER — If the Poteau Pirates football team was going to advance to the Class 4A state championship game, senior quarterback Jace Pitchford would be in the middle of it somewhere — and he was.
Although the Trojan War was centuries ago, the Poteau Pirates football team will be in one this afternoon in the Class 4A state semifinals.
The Pirates (11-1) will face the Oklahoma City Douglass Trojans (11-1) at 1:30 this afternoon at McAlester's Hook Eales Stadium. The winner will meet the victor of this weekend's other state semifinal between Anadarko and Wagoner in the state championship game on Friday at Oklahoma State University's Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater.

CASHION — Revenge is sweet, even if it took a year to get it. Just ask the Talihina Golden Tigers football team.
After losing last year to the Cashion Wildcats 43-24 in the Class A state quarterfinals at Doc Robinson Stadium, the same two teams met a year later in the same spot of the postseason. This time, the Golden Tigers visited the ’Cats and returned the favor by posting a 22-20 victory Friday night.
When the Thanksgiving holiday break ends this week, the season will get going for the Heavener Wolves basketball team. The Wolves, who were 18-8 last season, will meet Western Yell County, Ark., at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Gary Ford Invitational in Hartford, Ark.
The Wolves return four starters from last season's team.
Editor's note: No preseason information has been received on the Lady Wolves. As soon as their preseason information, and other teams' preseason information, and their season openers approach, there will be more season preview stories in future editions.
