Friday night, the Leflore High School basketball teams swept their first games played on Nadine Carpenter Court, getting wins over Indianola.
The weekend before, the legendary coach was honored by having her the court christened Nadine Carpenter Court during the alumni basketball games. Then, the Lady Savages and Savages posted wins on the first-ever true high school basketball games played on the “new” court. Way to go, Lady Savages and Savages, and congratulations Nadine. I figure it had to be a neat night — maybe not the fanfare of the actual court christening, but close.
LEFLORE — The 2013-14 basketball seasons got underway in fine fashion Friday night for the Leflore High School basketball teams.
Both the Lady Savages and Savages won for the first time on the newly-christened Nadine Carpenter Court as they both defeated Indianola. The Lady Savages held off the Lady Warriors 34-31, while the Savages routed the Warriors 89-44.
The 2013-14 Cameron Yellowjackets basketball season will begin at 8 tonight at home against the Howe Lions after the Lady ’Jackets open the season against the Lady Lions at 6:30 p.m.
However, it won't be the only thing new tonight. It will also begin a new era for the ’Jackets as new coach Jeremy Williams will be on the sidelines tonight, replacing Dustin Hall, who is now coaching at Hodgen.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — When looking at the final statistics from Saturday's Southeastern Conference game between the 11th-ranked Auburn Tigers and the Arkansas Razorbacks at Frank Broyles Field at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, the Hogs had more first downs than the Tigers — 25 to 18 — and had about the same amount of total offensive yards — 346 yards to Auburn's 366.
However, it's not about how many yards or first downs you get, but what you do with the football when you possess it. Unfortunately for the Razorbacks, they had too many miscues, which led to a 35-17 victory by the Tigers.
