OKLAHOMA CITY — Two Poteau Pirates placed at the Class 4A State Tournament, which took place Friday and Saturday at State Fair Arena.
Senior Tyler Tustin's bid for a three-peat as state champion just missed as he lost his 138-pound state title match 4-2 after winning his first two matches — a 15-0 technical fall quarterfinal victory and a 3-1 semifinal win. He placed second, and ended his career with two state titles, four times placing at state, three times a state finalist, four regional titles and a career record of 168-8.
SHAWNEE — The Hodgen Lady Bulldogs and the Monroe Eagles each lost semifinals games on Friday in the 2013 Organization of Rural Elementary Schools (ORES) State Tournament.
In the Division II semifinals, the Lady Bulldogs lost 43-37 to eventual state champion El Reno Darlington on Friday at St. Gregory's University.
The Eagles suffered a state semifinal loss to Bearden by the score of 31-25 in the Division IV boys action on Friday at Shawnee Middle School. Bearden lost to Stidman in Saturday's title game.
Due to threatening weather, Carl Albert State College's softball home doubleheader against Crowder College, Mo., which was slated for a 2 p.m. Tuesday start, has been postponed. No make-up date has been set at this time.
The Lady Vikings are slated to return to action at 2 p.m. Thursday with a home twinbill against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
Due to the possibility of wintry weather affecting Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa's traveling, tonight's Carl Albert State College home games against the Lady Mavericks and Mavericks has been moved to Tuesday. The women's game will be at 5 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 7 p.m.
Also, since the CASC teams played last week's snowed-out games at Seminole State on Saturday afternoon, Saturday's originally-scheduled games against Northern Arkansas College were canceled and will not be rescheduled.
February 24th
Lake Wister and Talimena state parks have joined to promote a heart healthy hiking program this year.
A hike will take place each month, alternating between the two state parks.
The next hike will take place at Lake Wister State Park's Wards Landing Campground on March 9.
All hikes will begin at 1 p.m. Bottled water will be provided at each month's hike.

CROWDER — The Howe Lions will play at least one more afternoon. They hope they will take home some hardware this afternoon, and punch a ticket to Wilburton.
The Lions routed the Vanoss Wolves 62-37 Friday afternoon in the consolation semifinals of the Class 2A Regional Tournament.
The Lions (21-8) will meet the winner of Friday night’s Silo-Rattan winner at 3 this afternoon for the consolation championship, and a trip to next week’s Class 2A Area Tournament at the Wilburton High School gym.
KINGSTON — The Bokoshe Lady Tigers basketball team saw its season come to an end Friday afternoon in the Class B Area Tournament.
The Lady Tigers lost 48-30 to the Midway Lady Chargers in the area consolation finals to end their season at 19-8.
The Lady Tigers won their first game of the area tournament as they downed the Kinta Lady Eagles 35-25.

After a great rally one week ago tonight to win the Class 2A District Tournament title game over Sallisaw-Central on their home court, the Pocola Indians saw their season end with back-to-back losses in the regional tournament.
The Indians’ season came to an end with a 56-45 loss to the Stratford Bulldogs on Friday afternoon on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium in Talihina.
The Indians’ first playoff loss took place Thursday night at the Panama High School gym, losing 68-57 to the Oktaha Tigers. The Indians end the season at 16-10.
SHAWNEE — Two LeFlore County junior high teams, the Hodgen Lady Bulldogs and the Monroe Eagles, made it to Friday night's semifinals of the 2013 Organization of Rural Elementary Schools State Tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated Moffett 31-29 Thursday at St. Gregory's University to advance to Friday night's Division II semifinals against El Reno Darlington with the winner playing for the state title at 12:40 p.m. at St. Gregory's University.
