Poteau golfer runner-up in Boys Invitational; Cameron player fifth, Pirates golfer ties for eighth; Pirates place third in tourney at Choctaw Country Club

Poteau golfer Cody Shore came in runner-up medalist to Fort Gibson’s Wesley Jackson in Monday’s Poteau Boys Invitational that took place at Choctaw Country Club. Jackson edged the Poteau golfer by a stroke — 71 to 72.
Shore was not the only Pirate to place as Connor Wheat tied for eighth place with a 79.
Cameron’s Kody Whitehead, a state qualifier last year, was fifth-place medalist with a 77.
As a team, the Pirates were third with a 328. Jackson’s Tigers won the team title with a 317, with Sallisaw second (325).

Poteau Lady Pirates golf team sweep top honors at Sallisaw; three golfers place in top five

SALLISAW — The Poteau Lady Pirates, the Class 4A defending state champions, continued its strong play on the links Monday afternoon by winning the team and individual titles at the Sallisaw Invitational.
The Lady Pirates won the team title with 357, while defending individual state champion Hannah Ward was the top medalist with a 74.
However, Ward was not the only Lady Pirate to medal. Skylynn Terry was fourth-place medalist with an 89, while Cathleen Manlove was fifth-place medalist at 90.

Two Poteau junior high golfers place at Haworth Invitational

BROKEN BOW — Two Poteau junior high golfers placed in Monday’s Haworth Invitational, which took place at Cedar Creek Golf Course.
Ryan Ward won the tournament with an 88 in his final tournament of the spring.
In four tournaments, Ward won three of them, and placed fifth in the other one.
Bryson Terry placed fifth with a 93, while Jeremiah Loggains shot a 107.

HOWE — The Howe Lions will enter this week's Wister tournament on a high note as they handled the Arkoma Mustangs 13-1 in three innings Monday afternoon at Lions Field.
Pocola 11, Cameron 5: In Pocola, the Indians, who trailed 5-2 in the sixth inning, scored nine runs in the frame to snatch the win away from the Yellowjackets.
Talihina 9, Kiowa 3: In Talihina, the Golden Tigers, who trailed 2-0 after an inning, scored three runs in the first inning, a run in the second inning, four runs in the third inning and a run in the fourth inning for a 9-2 lead.

Heavener basketball player signs to play with CASC

HEAVENER — In February, Heavener High School football players Blake Smittle and Aaron Turner signed to play with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Tuesday morning in a ceremony inside the high school gym, a third HHS senior signed to play college ball.
Basketball senior Trevor Smith signed his letter of intent with the Carl Albert State College Vikings.
