Howe, Talihina athletes capture Class 2A regional track titles; several Lady Lions qualify for next weekend’s state meet at Carl Albert High School

LUTHER — Two local high school track athletes won championships at the Class 2A Regional Meet, which took place Saturday.
Howe’s Savannah Smallwood won the shot put (35-8) and was regional runner-up in the discus (92-1.5), while Talihina’s Keisha Brown won the long jump (14-9.25).
While Brown will be Talihina’s lone representative at the next weekend’s state meet at Midwest City Carl Albert High School’s Titan Stadium, the Lady Lions will have several state qualifiers performing at state.

Spiro Lady Bulldogs shot putter makes state by winning regional title

STROUD — Spiro’s Philicea Mack, who was the lone Lady Bulldog participant at Saturday’s Class 3A Regional Meet, qualified for next weekend’s state meet at Ardmore High School’s Noble Stadium by winning the regional title in the shot put with a distance of 35-10.5.

Heavener track athletes win regional titles Saturday in Madill; several Lady Wolves, Wolves qualify for next weekend’s Class 3A State Meet at Ardmore’s Noble Stadium

MADILL — It was a banner day for the Heavener High School track teams at Saturday’s Class 3A Regional Meet at Alumni Stadium.
Two Lady Wolves won regional titles to automatically qualify for next weekend’s state meet at Ardmore High School’s Noble Stadium.
Jodie Hill won two regional titles — the 100-meter (12.65 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (26.61). She was also regional runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles (16.6).
Laura Jo Allen was regional champion in the discus (115-2) to automatically punch her ticket to state.

Congratulations to the Poteau Pirates baseball team for winning the Class 4A District Tournament against the Roland Rangers.

Contrary to the individual who does the announcing for the Poteau High School soccer home games, the name of our stadium is Elbert Costner Stadium not Peter Conser Stadium.
• • •
Class 4A’s top-ranked Poteau Pirates soccer team will face the Verdigris Cardinals in the opening round of the state playoffs at 6 tonight at Costner Stadium, with the winner meeting the Stilwell-Oologah winner on Friday night.

Poteau senior golfer wants to go out with one more state title

Last spring was a magical one for the Poteau Lady Pirates golf team as it won the Class 4A State Tournament and Hannah Ward won the individual state championship.
“It really sunk in about the time it happened,” said Poteau senior golfer Cathleen Manlove. “It was just exciting and overwhelming. It was one of those experiences that you never forget.”
Ever since last spring, Manlove has tried to make herself even better than she was a season ago.

Poteau, Spiro get regional tournaments, while Talihina, Wister hit the road

Half of the four LeFlore County high school baseball teams remaining were named regional hosts for this week's regional tournaments, which will begin Thursday.
The Poteau Pirates will have more home games at Town Creek Park as they were named the host team for the Class 4A Regional Tournament, welcoming Broken Bow, Byng and Muldrow.
The Poteau Pirates will face the Savages at 11 a.m. Wednesday, followed by the Bulldogs and the Byng Pirates at 1 p.m. The winners will play at 3 p.m. in the winner's-bracket final, while the losers will play in an elimination game at 5 p.m.

Whitesboro's baseball season ends at regional tournament

TUPELO — It was a quick stay for the Whitesboro Bulldogs baseball team at the Class B Regional Tournament on Thursday.
The Bulldogs lost 11-3 to eventual regional champion Moss, then fell 15-5 to see their season end at 14-13.

NOC-Enid baseball team sweeps pair from Carl Albert on Sunday; Monday's game against Eastern postponed; Vikings will face Connors State Tuesday night in Warner

After the Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Jets defended their home baseball field, David Allen Memorial Ballpark, in a doubleheader sweep of Carl Albert on Thursday, the Vikings hoped they could return the favor Sunday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field. It didn't happen.
The Jets came to town and swept the Vikings 5-1 and the nightcap 2-1 in eight innings.
