POCOLA — There will be at least one LeFlore County softball team playing for the title of the inaugural Pocola Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The host Pocola Lady Indians and the Wister Lady Widcats reached Saturday afternoon's winner's-bracket finals at 12:30 p.m. for the right to reach Saturday afternoon's 3:30 p.m. championship game.
The Lady Indians blanked the McCurtain Lady Bulldogs 10-0 Thursday night right before the Lady ’Cats edged the Stigler Lady Panthers 2-1.
LEFLORE — The David Morris era got under way in grand fashion Thursday afternoon in the season openers for the new Leflore baseball coach.
The Savages began the fall 2013 season with a pair of no-hitters thrown by a combined four pitchers as Leflore routed McCurtain 11-1 and Kinta 10-0.
The Savages will be in the Coleman-Calera Invitational, which started Friday night with two games — vs. Soper and co-host Coleman in Coleman. Today, Leflore meets co-host Calera at 10 this morning, followed by a noon game against Pittsburg — both games in Calera.
HARTSHORNE — The Howe Lady Lions went 1-2 in Friday's Hartshorne Festival as they routed Haileyville 12-1, but lost 4-3 to Quinton and fell 7-1 to host Hartshorne.
Battiest 8, Whitesboro 5: Thursday afternoon in Whitesboro, the Lady Panthers spoiled the season opener for the Lady Bulldogs as they scored six runs in the third inning to take a 6-1 lead.
Smithville 3, Howe 2: Thursday afternoon in Smithville, the Lady Braves scored twice in the third inning to break a 2-all tie to get the win. Two of Smithville's runs were unearned.
Most all of the Poteau Pirates are eagerly awaiting the new district alignments for the 2014-15 seasons. It is for sure that Tulsa Rogers is dropping down, but the status for Tulsa Cascia Hall is still in limbo. Will the Commandos stay in Class 4A or will their private school status and the multplier factor bump them up to Class 5A — or even 6A.
Poteau could get Ada, Tulsa Central, Oologah, Wagoner or Miami in its district. Whatever happens, the district will still be as tough as always — and maybe even tougher.

The track will have a dirt bike/all-terrain vehicle rodeo Oct. 12. There will be nine events which people can enter, and it looks like it's going to be fun. I'll have more information later on this.
