The Poteau Pirates had their red-white interteam scrimmage Saturday night at Costner Stadium as they split their 63 players as equally as possible.
The Pirates started practice last week, put on pads Friday for the first time, and then staged a full-contact scrimmage on Saturday night, a scrimmage that was going to be used as a starting point for evaluating players.
BROKEN ARROW — The Poteau Lady Pirates softball team went 2-3 to open the season this past weekend at the Broken Arrow Tournament.
Poteau beat Sapulpa 9-6 and Oologah 2-1, but lost 7-5 to Broken Arrow, 7-6 to Oklahoma City Putnam City North and 9-0 to Sequoyah-Tahlequah.
POCOLA — The Pocola Lady Indians softball team won its own tournament, but had to do it the hard way Saturday night.
The Lady Indians, who lost the winner's-bracket final 5-0 to the Wister Lady Wildcats earlier in the day, beat the Lady ’Cats twice by scores of 6-1 and 5-2 to win the inaugural Pocola Invitational.
The Lady Indians rebounded from the loss to Wister by outlasting the Stigler Lady Panthers 2-1 in a nine-inning game which went to the international tie-breaker to get to the championship round.
