Poteau senior wrestler wins Maverick Conference title; several other matmen place

WAGONER — Poteau's Devin Anderson became the 77th Pirate wrestler to win a Maverick Conference title since 1980 as he won the 120-pound championship Saturday at the 2014 Maverick Conference Tournament, beating Jay's Trestin January in the finals.
As a team, the Pirates were sixth out of 18 teams, with three other wrestlers placing.
Roderick Hornbuckle was third at 145 pounds, Sam Shore (138) and Khy Mote (170) coming in fourth.
Jake Sheehan (160 pounds), Eli Mapes (182), Aaron Hopson (220) and Daylon Brewton (heavyweight) all won matches but failed to place.

CASC baseball opener snowed out at Bacone JV; Saturday's game at Paris still on at this point

The 2014 Carl Albert State College baseball opener Monday afternoon in Muskogee against the Bacone College junior varsity was snowed out. No make-up date has been set.
The Vikings are now slated to open the season at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in a road doubleheader against Paris, Texas.

Class 4A, 3A, 2A district assignments to be made known this week (UPDATED WITH TUESDAY CANCELATIONS, NEWLY RESCHEDULED DATES; CASC UPDATE)

For the basketball teams Class 4A [Poteau], 3A [Heavener and Spiro] and 2A [Howe, Panama, Pocola, Talihina and Wister], they will find out this week as to whom they will be paired for their respective district tournaments as well as where they will be sent. The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association will make the announcements later this week.
As soon as their made known, I'll have something in our publication.
