Panama girls, Pocola boys win district titles; seasons come to an end for Lady Indians, Razorbacks

SALLISAW — The Panama Lady Razorbacks and the Pocola Indians won titles in the Class 2A District Tournament on Saturday night, both beating the host Sallisaw-Central teams.
The Lady ’Backs rallied from a five-point deficit in overtime to down the host Lady Tigers 56-53, while the Indians defeated the host Tigers 65-54.

CASC baseball team sweeps ECU JV; Vikings travel to meet University of the Ozarks JV this afternoon in Clarksville

The Carl Albert State College baseball team did not let the chilly weather Sunday afternoon deter the Vikings from getting a home doubleheader sweep over the East Central University junior varsity Sunday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field.
The Vikings took the opener 9-5, then had to score late to take the nightcap 7-6.
The Vikings will return to action in a road doubleheader beginning at 12:30 this afternoon against the University of the Ozarks JV in Clarksville, Ark.

Poteau teams split games with Broken Bow in district tournament

BROKEN BOW — The Poteau Lady Pirates won their third straight Class 4A District Tournament title as they handled the homestanding Broken Bow Lady Savages 47-33 on Saturday night.
However, the news wasn't as great for the Pirates, who lost their district title game 59-41 to the Savages.
However, both Poteau teams will be in the Class 4A Regional Tournament, and will get to be at home one last time this season.

Whitesboro boys close to state after winning regional tournament; Lady Bulldogs see season end with loss in consolation finals

WILBURTON — The Whitesboro Bulldogs are a win away from making next week's Class B State Tournament. The ’Dogs downed the Moyers Tigers 47-29 Saturday night at the Wilburton High School Gym to win the Class B Regional Tournament.
The Bulldogs will meet Southwest Covenant at 8 p.m. Friday in the title game of the Class B Area Tournament at Ada High School's Cougar Activity Center, with the winner advancing to next week's state tournament. The Whitesboro-Moyers loser will still have a shot at state the next night, playing for the consolation championship.

Howe teams beat Wister to win Class 2A District Tournament; Lady Wildcats, ’Cats sweep Gore on Friday night

HOWE — The Howe High School basketball teams took the first step en route to what they hope will be state championships. The Lady Lions and Lions handled the Wister teams Saturday night at the Howe Gym to sweep titles in the Class 2A District Tournament.

CASC baseball team splits last weekend's series against Highland; Vikings will entertain East Central JV this afternoon at Ival Goodman Field

The Carl Albert State College baseball team as it splits its four games from Highland, Kan., at Ival Goodman Field.
The Vikings opened the three-day series with a come-from-behind 7-6 victory on Valentine's Day.
The two teams split last Saturday's doubleheader, with the Vikings taking the nightcap 7-4 after losing the opener 6-2.
In Sunday's finale, Highland got past Carl Albert 8-5.
The Vikings will return to action with a home doubleheader against the East Central University junior varsity beginning at 1 this afternoon [Feb. 23] at Ival Goodman Field.

CASC softballers suffer losses to Crowder

It was a rough home doubleheader Thursday afternoon for the Carl Albert State College softball team as it suffered a sweep at the hands of Crowder, Mo. The visitors took the opener 10-3, then handed the hosts a 10-2 setback.
The Lady Vikings will try to return the favor when the same two teams will meet in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Neosho, Mo.

Panama powerlifters win own Iron Hog Classic

PANAMA — It was indeed a happy Valentine's Day for the Panama Razorbacks powerlifting team as it won its own Iron Hog Classic, which took place at the Panama Elementary School Gym.
The Hogs won the small school division title, and had several individual placers.
Andy Burris (123 pounds), Trey Byrd (145), Dakota Fout (169), Trey Smith (198) and Ryan Farrar (heavyweight) all won their respective weight classes.
Nikita Bershirs (220 pounds), Dylan Covey (242), Logan Coker (275) and Bobby Lotchleas (heavyweight) were runners-up in their respective divisions.

Poteau senior girls believe team is back on right track; Lady Pirates, Pirates begin playoffs tonight in Class 4A District Tournament at Broken Bow

The Poteau Lady Pirates started out being ranked in the Class 4A Poll on www.ossaarankings.com. However, a mid-season swoon dropped them out of the poll, but the Lady Pirates won their final two regular-season games over Roland and Heavener earlier this week. Now, they believe they're back on track.

Monroe boys make state semifinals; Eagles, Hodgen girls played Friday night for shots at state

SEMINOLE — The Monroe Eagles took the first step in adding to their hardware collection this basketball season.
The Eagles, who won the 2014 LeFlore County Junior High Tournament last month, are two wins away from adding a state title plaque to the trophy case. They routed Wickliffe 61-24 in the quarterfinals of the Organization of Rural Elementary Schools [ORES] Division III State Tournament on Thursday night at Seminole State College.
The Eagles played El Reno Darlington in Friday night's semifinals for a shot at today to win state.
