Seven county basketball teams ranked in latest polls

Seven of the 26 LeFlore County high school basketball teams are ranked in the latest polls released at
Five of those seven teams are boys teams. Spiro is third in Class 3A, while Howe is seventh and Talihina 11th in Class 2A.
In Class B boys,. Leflore is seventh and Whitesboro eighth, and those two teams met Tuesday night in Whitesboro.
Two girls teams are ranked. Spiro is 12th in Class 3A, while Howe is 10th in Class 2A.

Paris sweeps season-opening DH from CASC on Sunday; Vikings to have four-game weekend home series with Highland, Kan.

PARIS, Texas — Under chilly weather conditions, the Carl Albert State College baseball team opened its 2014 season by suffering a pair of close losses to Paris Junior College by scores of 3-0 and 3-1.
The Vikings will have their home-opening series this weekend at Ival Goodman Field as they will play Highland Community College from Kansas. The teams will play a single nine-inning beginning at 2 p.m. Friday, then play a noon doubleheader — a nine-inning game and a seven-inning game — on Saturday, then wrap up the series with a single nine-inning game at noon Sunday.

PANAMA — The Panama Lady Razorbacks were able to get a home win over the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets on Monday night at the Panama Gym, posting a 58-36 victory.
The Lady ’Backs jumped out to a 13-8 lead and slowly increased the lead throughout the game.
Arkoma 71, Bokoshe 51: In Bokoshe, the Lady Mustangs jumped out to a 13-10 lead after a period en route to a 30-21 halftime advantage.
After the Lady Tigers cut the deficit to 43-36 after three periods, Arkoma outscored Bokoshe 28-15 in the final quarter to preserve the win.

BOKOSHE — The Arkoma Mustangs proved to be too much to corral for the Bokoshe Tigers as the Mustangs beat the Tigers 59-33 Monday night at Bokoshe Tigers Fieldhouse.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 10-3 lead after a period en route to a 27-8 halftime lead, not allowing the Tigers a field goal until the waning minutes of the second period.
Cameron 69, Panama 54: Monday night in Panama, the Yellowjackets jumped out to a 19-6 lead after a period, but had to withstand a late rally by the Razorbacks as the Hogs outscored the ’Jackets 22-16 in the final quarter.

CASC teams suffer road sweep at NOC-Tonkawa; Lady Vikings, Vikings return home Thursday night against Seminole State

Myeisha Williams' 17-point effort was not enough for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings as they fell 74-66 to the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Lady Mavericks in the first game of Monday night's Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader in Tonkawa.
A career-high of 18 points from Hydro sophomore Taylor Rains wasn't enough for the Vikings in their 77-72 loss to the Mavericks.
The CASC teams will return home Thursday night to entertain Seminole State at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse. The women's contest will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.

It's hard to believe that the high school basketball playoffs have arrived. It just seemed like the season got started.
The Class A and B playoffs will begin at the end of the week. The complete schedule for the LeFlore County teams is listed at the end of this column.

Because today's edition was printed at 3 p.m. Monday, the high school rankings had not been released by I'll list them in Wednesday's edition.
Spiro at Poteau, 6:30 and 8 p.m.
Bokoshe at Cameron, 6:30 and 8 p.m.

NEO teams sweep CASC on Saturday

A 13-point halftime deficit proved to be too much for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings to overcome as they lost 67-52 to the 11th-ranked Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Lady Norse in the first game of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader in Miami.
Four double-figure scorers and 51.8-percent shooting from the field proved to be the difference for the NEO Golden Norsemen in their 74-58 win over the Vikings.
The CASC teams played Monday night on the road against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa.

Poteau teams sweep Sallisaw; Saturday's games at Broken Bow canceled, not rescheduled yet

SALLISAW — The Poteau High School basketball teams made the snowy trip to Sallisaw a profitable one as they picked up a pair of wins.
The Lady Pirates used a strong fourth quarter to rally past the Lady Black Diamonds for a 57-44 victory. A strong second half enabled the Pirates to get a 55-48 come-from-behind victory.
Saturday afternoon's road games at Broken Bow were canceled due to inclement weather. No make-up date has been set.

CAMERON — The Wister Wildcats got a much needed victory as they beat the Cameron Yellowjackets 69-58 on Saturday afternoon at the Cameron Gym.
The Wildcats got out to an 18-13 lead over the Yellowjackets after one period, and the visitors never lost their lead.
Talihina 58, Heavener 32: Friday night in Heavener, the Golden Tigers jumped out to an 18-10 lead after a period en route to a 38-19 halftime advantage.
Howe 48, Red Oak 47: Friday night in Howe, Howe's Chesly Hall hit his only basket of the game with 30 seconds left to put the Lions ahead at 48-47 lead.

Weekend High School Girls Basketball Roundup

CAMERON — The Cameron Lady Yellowjackets rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime, then outscored the Lady Wildcats by a point to post a 42-41 come-from-behind victory Saturday afternoon at the Cameron Gym.
Trailing 29-26 after three periods, the Lady ’Jackets outscored the Lady ’Cats in the final period 9-6 to force overtime tied at 35.
In the extra period, Cameron outscored Wister 7-6 to complete the comeback.
Heavener 65, Talihina 51: Friday night in Heavener, the Lady Wolves doubled the Lady Golden Tigers in the opening period 14-7 and never lost the lead.
