BROKEN BOW — The Poteau Pirates split their games in Friday's three-way before heading to Florida. The Pirates run ruled the Idabel Warriors 10-2 in six innings, but lost to host Broken Bow 8-4.
In the win over Idabel, the Pirates used an eight-run first inning to blow the game open.
In the loss to Broken Bow, the Savages scored four runs in the first inning and three in the second for a 7-0 lead.
Kaydon Evans' grand-slam home run in the third inning cut Poteau's deficit to 7-4, but that was as close as the Pirates got.

Poteau girls beat Wister, Arkoma in three-way; Lady Wildcats blank Lady Mustangs

WISTER — The Poteau Lady Pirates softball team entered spring break by getting a pair of wins in Friday's three-way. The Lady Pirates got past host Wister 7-5 after beating Arkoma 10-0.
The Lady Wildcats opened the three-way with a 10-0 win over the Lady Mustangs.

Spring Sports Guide coming out Saturday

March 17, 2014

The 2014 Spring Sports Guide will be published in Saturday's edition, with the season-preview stories of all the high school spring teams and remaining schedules in all sports.
I'll spend all week working on it, and I want to thank everyone who helped get me team photographs and team preseason information for the special section.
