Poteau boys win regional consolation title, but Lady Pirates fall in title game to No. 1 FG; Both teams will be in this week's Class 4A Area Tournament in Wilburton, needing three wins to make state tournament

FORT GIBSON — The Poteau Pirates basketball team failed to get hardware in the Class 4A District Tournament on Feb. 22. The Pirates made sure they got some in the regional tournament Saturday afternoon as they beat the Muldrow Bulldogs 55-39 to win the consolation championship and advance to this week's Class 4A Area Tournament at the Wilburton High School Gym, where they will meet the Ada Cougars at 3 p.m. Thursday in the consolation quarterfinals. Three wins will get the Pirates to the state tournament.

Arkoma girls state bound; Lady Mustangs avenge loss to Kiowa in area consolation finals, to meet Frontier Thursday night in Elite 8

DURANT — The Arkoma Lady Mustangs did not let it deter them by having to play three games in three days in last weekend's Class A Area Tournament at Southeastern Oklahoma State University's Bloomer Sullivan Fieldhouse.
The Lady Mustangs capped their three-game run at the area tournament by avenging their lone playoff loss of the postseason to the Kiowa Cowgirls, who beat them a week before in the regional finals.
Arkoma handled Kiowa 65-51 to make it to the Class A State Tournament, which will begin Thursday at Oklahoma City's State Fair Arena — a.k.a., “The Big House.”

Carl Albert basketball teams split Saturday games at Seminole State; Region II Tournament play-in playoff games rescheduled for Tuesday night due to inclement weather

SEMINOLE — Getting 12 points from Kasuela Cooper and great defense were both keys for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in their 62-56 win in the regular season finale against the Seminole State College Lady Belles on Saturday afternoon.
With the win over Seminole, the Lady Vikings (15-13 overall, 9-9 in Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference play) clinched the No. 6 seed. They were slated to play 11th-seeded Arkansas Baptist in a Region II Tournament play-in game Monday night at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse, but the match-up has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday due to weather.
