Poteau pitcher flirts with no-hitter, ends up two-hitting Roland

Poteau junior right-hander Kade McMillin almost got a no-hitter in Monday afternoon's game with the Roland Rangers at a chilly Town Creek Park. He had a no-hitter through 5.1 innings, and settled for a two-hitter as the Pirates blanked the Rangers 5-0.

Howe girls win one, lose two in Wilburton Festival on Friday; three-way at Talihina with Quinton canceled

WILBURTON — The Howe Lady Lions went 1-2 on Friday at the Wilburton Festival.
The Lady Lions edged Panola 7-6, but lost 7-6 in six innings to Hartshorne and suffered a 6-0 shutout at the hands of Hugo.
Howe's road three-way Tuesday afternoon at Talihina with Quinton was canceled and will not be made up.
Editor's note: Poteau's Tuesday home game with Roland was canceled by the Lady Rangers with no make-up date set.

Slow-Pitch County Tournament was rather exciting last week; Class A, B baseball districts announced as well as softball districts for non-Poteau teams

I was hoping that the 2014 LeFlore County Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament would be as exciting as the baseball one was the week before. I got my wish.
Just like the baseball county tournament, the slow-pitch county tournament was forced to the if-game — and an if-game that had some drama as until the final out was made the game was still in doubt. We saw a new county queen crowned, the Heavener Lady Wolves, as they won the school's first-ever softball county title. However, they also suffered their first loss of the season, losing to Pocola in the first title game Thursday night.

BATTIEST — The Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs went 1-2 in the Battiest Tournament this past weekend. After beating Roland 7-6 on Friday, they lost later that day 7-3 to host Battiest and fell 9-1 to Broken Bow on Saturday.
Talihina's games in the event were not reported by press time.
Monday Games Canceled
All of Monday's games were rained out due to Sunday's rain. Games lost to wet fields were Poteau and Fort Gibson at Muldrow, Cameron at Howe, Muldrow at Panama, Pocola at Quinton and Wister at Buffalo Valley.

Poteau track girls third at Airedale Relays; Lady Pirate runner, relay teams claim gold

ALMA, Ark. — The Poteau Lady Pirates track team finished third at the Airedale Relays on Friday. The Lady Pirates had 96 points, finishing behind meet champion Fort Smith (Ark.) Southside (149.5 points) and Van Buren, Ark. (102).
The Lady Pirates won one individual event and two relay events.

Poteau soccer teams split with Fort Gibson Tigers; Lady Pirates, Pirates welcome county rival Heavener to town tonight for Senior Night

FORT GIBSON — The Poteau High School soccer teams split their road games against host Fort Gibson on Friday night. The Pirates prevailed 3-1 over the Tigers in a battle of ranked teams, while the Lady Tigers blanked the Lady Pirates 8-0.
The Poteau teams will have Senior Night games tonight with county rival Heavener at Costner Stadium. The girls' game will be at 5 p.m., with playoff ramifications on the line for both teams. The boys' contest will begin at 7 p.m., with the district lead at stake.

CASC baseball team splits Saturday's home games with NOC-Tonkawa; Vikings entertain Coffeyville, Kan., this afternoon

The Carl Albert State College Vikings baseball team split its home doubleheader with Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa on Saturday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field.
The Vikings took the nightcap 4-2 after losing 3-2 in the opener.
The Vikings will return to action at 1:30 this afternoon in a home doubleheader against Coffeyville, Kan., at Ival Goodman Field.

Carl Albert softball team homers way to win in opener over Eastern before losing nightcap in extras; Lady Vikings, whose Monday doubleheader at NOC-Enid has been moved to Wednesday, will entertain Seminole State this afternoon

WILBURTON — The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team literally homered its way to a Game 1 4-0 victory over the archrival Eastern Oklahoma State College Lady Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon, hitting three round-trippers to produce all four runs.
Unfortunately for the Lady Vikings, they suffered a 3-2, eight-inning loss to the Lady Mountaineers in the nightcap.
The Lady Vikings, whose Monday road doubleheader against Northern Oklahoma College-Enid moved to 2 p.m. Wednesday due to weather, will entertain Seminole State College for a 2 p.m. twinbill this afternoon.
