SPIRO â€” For the fourth time this month, the Poteau Pirates and the Spiro Bulldogs met on the baseball field, with the previous three meetings being in this month's LeFlore County Tournament â€” with the â€™Dogs taking the final two games in the championship round to win the county title.
The fourth meeting took place Saturday afternoon, with the Pirates prevailing as they held off the Bulldogs for a 3-2 win.
BOKOSHE â€” There is no longer a winless baseball team in LeFlore County. The Arkoma Mustangs got their first win of the season Friday afternoon in an 11-1 road victory over the Bokoshe Tigers.
Arkoma pitcher Seth Key pitched all four innings with seven strikeouts and scattered five hits.
Arkoma jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, then scored three runs in the second inning, five in the third and a single run in the fourth.
Most of Monday's athletic events involving LeFlore County teams were rained out.
The 2014 Poteau Boys Golf Invitational, which was to have taken place at both Choctaw and Wolf Ridge country clubs, was rained out on Monday. It has been rescheduled for today, beginning at both sites at 8 a.m.
