Spiro beats Poteau twice to win county baseball title; Pocola Indians finish third in county tournament

CAMERON — It took two title games to decide LeFlore County supremacy on the baseball diamond for 2014. Both games were won by the top-seeded Spiro Bulldogs.
After the Bulldogs beat the defending champion Poteau Pirates 9-3 in Friday night's title game to force the if-game Saturday afternoon, the ’Dogs used a three-run sixth inning to break an 8-all tie for an 11-9 victory to win the LeFlore County Baseball Tournament.
The Bulldogs reached the finals with a 10-7 victory Friday night over the Pocola Indians, who finished third.

Poteau tracksters compete Friday at Hilldale Invitational

MUSKOGEE — The Poteau High School track teams competed Friday at the Hilldale Invitational, with the Lady Pirates winning the team title with 105 points.
For the Pirates, Kendrick Hardaway was runner-up in the 100-meter dash (10.87 seconds, which is the fastest time among Class 4A sprinters).

Poteau soccer teams dominate Atoka

ATOKA — The Poteau High School soccer teams dominated the Atoka squads Friday night at Phillips Field by identical 10-0 scores.
The Pirates will play at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sequoyah-Claremore. Then both teams will hit the field Friday night at Fort Gibson, with the girls game at 5 p.m. and the boys contest at 7 p.m.
