It was a rough home doubleheader Thursday afternoon for the Carl Albert State College softball team as it suffered a sweep at the hands of Crowder, Mo. The visitors took the opener 10-3, then handed the hosts a 10-2 setback.
The Lady Vikings will try to return the favor when the same two teams will meet in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Neosho, Mo.
PANAMA â€” It was indeed a happy Valentine's Day for the Panama Razorbacks powerlifting team as it won its own Iron Hog Classic, which took place at the Panama Elementary School Gym.
The Hogs won the small school division title, and had several individual placers.
Andy Burris (123 pounds), Trey Byrd (145), Dakota Fout (169), Trey Smith (198) and Ryan Farrar (heavyweight) all won their respective weight classes.
Nikita Bershirs (220 pounds), Dylan Covey (242), Logan Coker (275) and Bobby Lotchleas (heavyweight) were runners-up in their respective divisions.
The Poteau Lady Pirates started out being ranked in the Class 4A Poll on www.ossaarankings.com. However, a mid-season swoon dropped them out of the poll, but the Lady Pirates won their final two regular-season games over Roland and Heavener earlier this week. Now, they believe they're back on track.
SEMINOLE â€” The Monroe Eagles took the first step in adding to their hardware collection this basketball season.
The Eagles, who won the 2014 LeFlore County Junior High Tournament last month, are two wins away from adding a state title plaque to the trophy case. They routed Wickliffe 61-24 in the quarterfinals of the Organization of Rural Elementary Schools [ORES] Division III State Tournament on Thursday night at Seminole State College.
The Eagles played El Reno Darlington in Friday night's semifinals for a shot at today to win state.
Despite getting a career-high of 28 points from Breonna Johnson, the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings were unable to overcome the Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Lady Jets going 31-of-39 from the free throw line as the Lady Jets beat the Lady Vikings 71-66 Thursday night at the Mabee Center in Enid.
The Jets shot lights out from start to finish as they connected on 17-of-29 from 3-point range and hit 66.7 percent on field goals as they dominated the Vikings 101-61 in the second game of Thursday night's doubleheader.
The Arkoma Lady Mustangs will have at least one more week of basketball.
The Lady Mustangs routed the Stuart Lady Hornets 70-42 in the Class A Regional Tournament on Thursday night in Stuart.
The win not only put the Lady Mustangs into Saturday night's regional finals against Kiowa at 6:30 p.m. in Kiowa, Arkoma automatically earned a berth into next week's Class A Area Tournament, which will take place Thursday through Saturday at Southeastern Oklahoma State University's Bloomer Sullivan Fieldhouse in Durant.
CLEVELAND, Okla. â€” The Leflore Savages have a shot a some more hardware Saturday night, plus they're playing more basketball.
The Savages got past the New Lima Falcons 57-54 Thursday night in the Class B Regional Tournament.
The Savages will play Cave Springs here at 8 p.m. Saturday for the regional title, but both teams will advance to next week's Class B Area Tournament, which will be Thursday through Saturday at Sand Springs.
WILBURTON â€” The Whitesboro Bulldogs are not only a win away from a regional title, but assured another week of hoops.
The â€™Dogs handled the Buffalo Valley Buffaloes 44-29 in the Class B Regional Tournament on Thursday night at the Wilburton High School Gym.
The Bulldogs will play Moyers here at 8 p.m. Saturday for the regional title, but both teams will advance to next week's area tournament at Ada High School's Cougar Activity Center.
The news wasn't as good for the Lady Bulldogs, who lost 44-21 to the Lady Buffaloes on Thursday night.
For three Poteau Pirate wrestlers, Khy Mote, Daylon Brewton and Devin Anderson, there's nothing more they want to do than make state in their final opportunities to do so. They will get that chance today and Saturday at the Class 4A Regional Tournament in Bristow. The top four finishers in each weight class will make the state tournament the following weekend in Oklahoma City.

SHAWNEE â€” The Hodgen Lady Bulldogs won their Organization of Rural Elementary Schools [ORES] Division II State Tournament quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at St. Gregory's University, downing Harmony 39-38.
The Lady Bulldogs will play tonight in the state semifinals for a shot at the state title on Saturday.
