Wister pitchers believe Wildcats can win state title this weekend

In the spring season of 2010, the Wister Wildcats baseball team made state. It began a streak of six straight seasons the ’Cats made state, winning the Class 2A state title in the spring of 2011. That streak ended in the fall of 2012.
However, the Wildcats look to begin a new streak when they meet the Latta Panthers at 1:30 this afternoon at Shawnee High School's Ed Skelton Field in the Class 2A state quarterfinals.

Santa Fe South ends Poteau boys’ soccer season in state semifinals again

Perhaps Tuesday night’s Class 4A state semifinal match was between the two most successful 4A soccer programs in Oklahoma for the past four seasons.
Poteau has made runs all the way to the semifinals for the past four years, while winning the championship in 2013.
Oklahoma City Sante Fe South has been on a roll for the past three seasons as they will be appearing in their third straight state title match as for the second season the Saints ended the Pirates’ season in the state semifinals with a 2-0 win Tuesday night at Costner Stadium.

Poteau boys golf team finishes fourth at 4A State Tournament; Pirate individual places ninth, earns medal

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Poteau Pirates golf team had a strong finish to the Class 4A State Tournament on Tuesday at Lake Hefner North Golf Course as the Pirates moved up a notch to a fourth-place finish.
Thanks to Tuesday’s final round team score of 306, which is what their second-round score was on Monday, the Pirates overtook Weatherford to snatch fourth place with a team score of 940.

Panama hitting facility to help baseball, softball programs for years to come

In late February, Mother Nature left some snow in LeFlore County. If this would have been 2014, the Panama High School baseball and softball teams would not have had anywhere to truly get some hitting and fielding done to keep them in shape. However, that’s not a problem in 2015.
There’s a new hitting facility right behind the right-field fence and foul pole of the softball field for the Hogs and the Lady Razorbacks to use.

Poteau boys golf team in fifth place at Class 4A State Tournament; defending state champion tied for eighth place at state

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Poteau Pirates golf team entered Tuesday's final 18 holes in fifth place in the team standings at the Class 4A State Tournament, which is taking place at Lake Hefner North Golf Course.
The Pirates had a team score of 328-306—634 for the first 36 holes on Monday.
The defending individual state champion, Poteau's Cody Shore, was tied for eighth place with a 77-71—148.
As for the rest of the Pirates, Ryan Ward had a 81-75—156, Bryson Terry shot an 82-81—-163, Bryce Weldon carded an 88-79—167 and Jeremiah Loggains had a 99-90—189.

CASC sophomore baseball players heading to four-year schools; Vian duo heading to UCO, while Dodd going to UAFS

Carl Albert State College has been noted for seeing its baseball players sign with four-year schools for their final two years of collegiate eligibility. The trend continues.
Three sophomores of the 2015 Vikings team have signed with four-year schools. The Vian duo of pitcher Shawn Troutman and catcher Dan Weer signed with the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, while pitcher Wyatt “Evan” Dodd, who went to Sallisaw-Central High School, signed with the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.

Soccer seniors want to return to state finals, avenge 2014 state semifinal loss to Santa Fe South

For the seven senior players on the Poteau Pirates soccer team, tonight’s Class 4A state semifinal match against the Oklahoma Santa Fe South Saints, which will kickoff at 6 tonight at Costner Stadium, will be a big one.

Pocola girls, Wister boys representing county at state

There will be two teams at state this week — one a bunch of diamond dolls — the Pocola Lady Indians, another a bunch of diamond guys, the Wister Wildcats.
The Lady Indians were rained out of their Class 4A State Tournament last Wednesday, but they'll try it once again this Wednesday, meeting Stratford at 11:30 a.m. at the Ballfields at Firelake. The Class 4A state bracket will appear in Wednesday's edition.
