Behind five double-figure scorers and great defensive pressure which led to transition baskets, the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings came away with an impressive 75-65 win over the Murray State College Lady Aggies on Monday night at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Holding the Aggies to eight points the first 13:17 of the second half was the difference for the Vikings in their 71-57 win in the nightcap of Monday night's doubleheader.
ARKOMA â€” The Arkoma High School basketball teams won the Class A District Tournament on Saturday night at the Arkoma Gym, but by different styles.
The Mustangs got a last-second shot by Josh Marion to down the Cameron Yellowjackets 52-50, but the Lady Mustangs were too much for the Gans Lady Grizzlies as Arkoma prevailed 93-68.
The Yellowjackets got to the district title game with a 72-52 win over the Gans Grizzlies on Friday night, but the season ended for the Cameron girls as they lost 59-52 to Gans on Friday night.
LEFLORE â€” The Leflore Savages and the Bokoshe Lady Tigers picked up postseason hardware in last weekend's Class B District Tournament on Nadine Carpenter Court.
The Savages downed the Bokoshe Tigers 70-34 to win the district title Saturday night right after the girls title game was a nailbiter with the Lady Tigers edging the host Lady Savages 44-43.
Both Bokoshe teams had to win Friday night over Midway to get to Saturday night's title games â€” and they did.
WHITESBORO â€” The Whitesboro High School basketball teams earned some hardware Friday night as they won the Class B District Tournament, posting wins over Kinta. The â€™Dogs downed the Eagles 61-41, while the Lady Bulldogs took care of the Lady Eagles 50-32.
The Monroe Eagles joined the Hodgen Lady Bulldogs in the 2014 Organization of Rural Elementary Schools [ORES] State Tournament. The Eagles, who won this year's LeFlore County Junior High Tournament, defeated Grant 51-39 in the Division III Area Tournament title game Friday night at McAlester's Frink-Chambers Middle School. The Eagles will play Wickliffe at 6 p.m. Thursday at Seminole State College in the state quarterfinals.
The seasons came to an end for the Monroe Lady Eagles and the Hodgen Bulldogs over the weekend.
The Poteau High School basketball teams split their home games with Roland on Monday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Lady Pirates held off the Lady Rangers 42-39, but the Rangers prevailed 41-30 over the Pirates.
POCOLA â€” The Pocola Indians ended the regular season with a big home win over the Howe Lions, posting a 64-60 victory Monday night at the Pocola Gym.
The Indians jumped out to a 12-11 lead after a period, which became a 23-21 halftime advantage and a 42-39 lead going into the final quarter.
Spiro 57, Muldrow 43: Monday night in Muldrow, in a battle of Bulldogs, LeFlore County's canines came out on top.
Spiro jumped out to an 18-6 lead after a period en route to a 35-12 halftime lead.
MULDROW â€” Although the postseason doesn't start until the end of the week, it was a playoff atmosphere here Monday night as it was a battle of Lady Bulldogs to determine the winner of the NOAA Conference for this season. The good news was the LeFlore County female canines brought home the title.
Spiro senior Sarika Willis hit four free throws in the final 40 seconds to help the local Lady Bulldogs beat Muldrow's Lady Bulldogs 53-50. Both teams finished the season at 8-2 in conference play, but Spiro swept the season series from Muldrow to win the tie-breaker and the conference title.
The 2014 season got off to a pretty good start for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team this past weekend. The Lady Vikings went 3-1 in their own festival on their own field, beating Southwestern, Tenn., twice â€” 11-3 and 4-0 â€” as well as beating Allen County, Kan., 5-4. The lone blemish on the weekend was a 15-11 loss Friday afternoon to Coffeyville, Kan.
The Lady Vikings will return to action this afternoon in a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the Bacone College junior varsity in Muskogee.
MULDROW â€” The Poteau Pirates basketball team rebounded from Thursday night's home loss to Stilwell with a 53-42 road win over the Muldrow Bulldogs on Friday night.
The Pirates jumped out to a 13-5 lead after a period and never lost the lead.
Talihina 50, Pocola 48, OT: Saturday afternoon in Talihina, Alan Lockhart's game-winning basket with two seconds left lifted the Golden Tigers to not only the win but the Black Diamond Conference title.
Spiro 55, Cedarville, Ark., 37: Saturday night in Spiro, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 28-11 lead after a period en route to the homecoming victory.
