Spiro boys fall in title game of Tiger Shootout to Vian; Pocola, Cameron also lose trophy games on Saturday

SALLISAW — Three LeFlore County baseball teams began play Thursday with chances to take home plaques at the 2013 Tiger Shootout at Sallisaw-Central High School. However, in the end, only one team got that honor.
The Spiro Bulldogs came in second in the tournament, losing the title game 12-8 in eight innings to the Vian Wolverines on Saturday. The Bulldogs reached the title game with an 8-1 win over the Keys (Park Hill) Cougars on Friday, followed by an 8-7 victory over Pocola in the semifinals on Friday.

Poteau girls upset No. 1 Moore, but lose to Southmoore in Muskogee Festival

MUSKOGEE — The Poteau Lady Pirates softball team made a statement in Friday’s action in the Muskogee Festival.
Class 6A’s 10th-ranked Lady Pirates stunned Class 6A’s top-ranked Moore Lady Lions 9-6 in their second game of the day.
In Poteau’s other game, Southmoore used middle-inning offense to down the Lady Pirates 15-6.

Poteau boys golf team, individual come in second at Fort Gibson

HULBERT — The Poteau High School boys golf team grabbed all the second-place honors at Friday's Fort Gibson Invitational, which took place at Western Hills Golf Course.
The Pirates had a team score of 321, finishing two team strokes behind champion Sallisaw (319), but ahead of third-place and host Fort Gibson (327) — which beat Poteau and Sallisaw in Monday's Poteau Boys Invitational at Choctaw Country Club.

“A Bike for Daylon” will happen May 18. Daylon is a 13-year-old with cerebral palsy who wants a bike to ride with his family.
Funds are being raised to help his parents purchase an adaptive bike for him.

The second annual Brittney Cox Memorial Golf Tournament 2-Man Scramble will take place at 8 a.m. and approximately 1 p.m. April 27 at Choctaw Country Club.
The entry fee is $135 per team, but for teams that have golf carts their fee will be $120.

Poteau boys handle McAlester JV Friday in Coal Miners Classic; Heavener boys suffer loss to Stigler Panthers

The Poteau Pirates had to wait a day to begin the Coal Miners Classic due to wet fields on Thursday, but did not let that bother them at all.
Poteau routed the McAlester junior varsity 10-1 in five innings in Hartshorne. The Pirates played co-host Hartshorne, which beat Eufaula 6-4, later Friday night for the right to get to today’s championship game at 4 p.m. in Wilburton. The Poteau-Hartshorne loser will play for third place at 2 this afternoon in Wilburton.
The Heavener Wolves faced elimination from the tournament late Friday after losing 16-6 to the Stigler Panthers in Wilburton.

Wister, Whitesboro, Talihina make Wister Tournament semifinals; Howe, Panama in today’s consolation finals at noon

WISTER — Three LeFlore County baseball teams found themselves late Friday in the winner’s bracket semifinals of the Wister Invitational Tournament, with one more win putting them into this afternoon’s title game.
Tournament host Wister had little problem with Hartford, Ark., winning 13-1 in three innings. That put the Wildcats into Friday night’s semifinal against local rival Whitesboro.
The Bulldogs avenged last week’s LeFlore County Tournament loss to Panama by downing the Razorbacks 9-5 — the same score the Hogs beat the ‘Dogs by in their opening-round county tournament game.

Poteau girls sent to Muskogee for Class 6A Regional Tournament; Pirates, Spiro Bulldogs, Wister Wildcats, Talihina named baseball district tournament hosts

The Poteau Lady Pirates softball team played Friday in the Muskogee Festival. Two weeks from now, the team will return there for the playoffs.
The Lady Pirates were sent to Muskogee along with Bixby and Broken Bow for the Class 6A Regional Tournament.
As for Class 4A, 3A and 2A baseball, four of LeFlore County’s teams were given the honor of being a district tournament host.
Poteau will entertain Roland for the Class 4A District Tournament.
Spiro will host Heavener in the Class 3A District Tournament.

M&M duo wins LeFlore County Bass Club tournament at Sardis

The LeFlore County Bass Club had its fourth tournament of the 2013 circuit Saturday at Potato Hills South on Sardis Lake.
There were 31 boats with 56 anglers who caught 35 total fish that weighed 104 pounds. The average fish weighed 2.97 pounds, and three limits were caught.
Save the world, recycle.

Poteau girls golf team wins team, individual titles at Pryor

PRYOR — Class 4A’s defending state girls golf champions, the Poteau Lady Pirates, took home all the top honors at Thursday’s Pryor Invitational.
The Lady Pirates not only won the team title with a 379, but Class 4A defending individual state champion Hannah Ward won the the top medalist honor with a 78.
In fact, two other Lady Pirates placed in the top 15. Cathleen Manlove was seventh with a 94, while Skylynn Terry was 11th with a 99.
Dallas Terry shot a 108, while Alyssa Vineyard carded a 110.
