TULSA — Three local golfers competed in the 2013 Oklahoma Junior Optimist Tournament on Wednesday at Page Belcher Golf Course.
Poteau's Ryan Ward won his age division title with a 71, while Cameron Yellowjacket golfer Kody Whitehead was third at 76.
Ward's sister, Hannah — the two-time Class 4A state champion — tied for first place in her division with a 71, but lost the playoff to end up as runner-up.
Both Wards qualified for the Junior National Optimist Tournament, which will be July 25-29 in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
The nice weather we have been having since school got out is about to end. Unfortunately, it looks like there are 100-degree temps in our near future.

With all the rain, our summer baseball teams have been having a hard time getting ball games played. It seems to come a downpour on game days — or there are church and basketball camps taking place.
However, baseball is about to kick in hard and fast. I have several games scheduled for the next two weeks. It's a good thing because those boys are itching for some action.
Have a great week!
