Leflore boys nip Oktaha in CASC Invitational; Cameron boys lose to Crowder

The Leflore Savages baseball team reached tonight's championship semifinals as they held off the Oktaha Tigers 3-2 Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the Carl Albert State College Invitational Tournament at CASC's Ival Goodman Field.
The Savages will play the winner of the Red Oak game that took place Thursday night at Howe's Lions Field at 7:30 tonight at Lions Field in the championship semifinals, with the winner playing for the title at 3 p.m. Saturday at Ival Goodman Field. The loser will play for third place at 1 p.m. Saturday at CASC.

Latest winners crowned in 2014 Summer Series at RaceDay

The latest series of motorcross races in the 2014 Summer Series took place last weekend at RaceDay Park Mx.
Railn Jordan won the 50cc beginners race, while placing third in the 50 cc open division behind champion Lucas Maloney and runner-up Fisher Moon.
Maloney also won the 50cc age 4-6 division title, while Moon did likewise in the 50cc ages 7-9 division.
Caleb Haynes was also a multiple winner, claiming the titles in the 65cc open and beginners divisions.

Poteau, Heavener football teams scrimmage each other Friday night

The Poteau Pirates and Heavener Wolves football team will finally get to see somebody new, each other. The two squads will scrimmage each other at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Heavener’s Harvey Stadium.
Both coaches have some things they are wanting to see out of their teams tonight.

Pocola Indians face Gore in road football scrimmage Friday night

The Pocola Indians will see what kinds of strides they’ve made in the early stages of football practice when they will be in their first scrimmage at 6:30 p.m. Friday on the road against the Gore Pirates.
“I want to see how the kids react to adversity,” Pocola coach Rick Lang. “We’re looking to see of the kids can handle it. I want them to come out and get after it. I want them to compete for positions. I want them to compete like their job is on the line with every snap. I want to see some enthusiasm. It’s going to be a challenge for us since this is our first scrimmage.”

HEAVENER — In a battle of the last two LeFlore County Tournament champions, the Heavener Lady Wolves [last spring’s champs] nipped the Poteau Lady Pirates [last fall’s champs] by a score of 1-0 Tuesday afternoon. It was also a rematch of last fall’s county title game.
The game’s only run scored on Sydney Crase’s two-out, RBI single in the opening inning, scoring Jacee Manley.
Arkoma 10, Whitesboro 4; Keota 2, Arkoma 1; Keota 4, Whitesboro 0: In Arkoma, the Lady Lions beat both county opponents, while the Lady Mustangs split their games.

McCURTAIN — The Cameron pitching duo of Dillon Jackson and Blaise Lomon combined to no-hit the McCurtain Bulldogs 16-2 in the second game of Monday’s Green Valley Conference doubleheader.
The Yellowjackets beat the Bulldogs in the opener 8-1.
Leflore 7, Okay 1: Tuesday in Okay, the Savages broke a scoreless tie with a six-run second inning.
Editor’s note: Tuesday’s Whitesboro-Smithville game was only a junior high contest as the high school teams did not play.

Spiro to be in five-way football scrimmage Thursday night at Okmulgee with Tulsa Hale, Tulsa McLain, Tulsa Webster

As practice started, Spiro football coach Chris Bunch was very concerned with his linemen, on both sides of the ball. He hopes to get some answers Thursday night when his Bulldogs will be in a five-way scrimmage at Okmulgee with three Tulsa schools — Tulsa Hale, Tulsa McLain/TSST and Tulsa Webster.
The junior varsity portion of the scrimmage will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity squads at 6 p.m.

Arkoma football team in road scrimmage Friday night against Wright Christian

The Arkoma Mustangs, fresh off their historic 2013 season in which they won the schools first playoff game and made the Class C state quarterfinals, will begin their new season as a Class B school in Friday night's road scrimmage against Wright Christian in Tulsa. Action will begin at 6 p.m.
Due to youth, Arkoma coach Mark Weatherton is anxious to see what his players will do come game time.
