Poteau senior softball trio not surprised by this fall's success

October 8, 2013

With the Poteau Lady Pirates softball team reloading after losing six of its starters to graduation from last fall's team, some may have wondered if the success would still happen. It has.
The Lady Pirates have amassed a 26-8 record, five straight LeFlore County fast-pitch titles and 11 straight district titles.
“I think our chemistry has really clicked,” senior first baseman Chelsey Campbell said. “The freshmen have really helped us. Everybody has stepped up like they needed to.”

OU might have been looking ahead to Texas and almost forgot about TCU Horned Frogs

October 8, 2013

NORMAN — We should have all expected a game like this — coming right after a great win on the road at Notre Dame and right before the Red River Rivalry next Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Oklahoma Sooners didn’t play very well, but a win is a win at this point in the season. The Sooners are still undefeated after a lackluster 20-17 victory over
Texas Christian on Saturday night at Owen Field.

OSU Cowboys looked better against K-State than week before against West Virginia

October 8, 2013

STILLWATER — There's no question that the Oklahoma State Cowboys football team laid an egg on Sept. 28 when they opened Big 12 play against West Virginia.
However, things looked better for the Pokes on Saturday afternoon for their Big 12 home opener at Boone Pickens Stadium against Kansas State as they outlasted the Wildcats 33-29. Mind you, I didn't say a lot better, but better nontheless.

I like Hannah better than Miley

October 8, 2013

I have a confession to make. I have sat down several times and watched “Hannah Montana” when it was on the Disney Channel with my grandchildren. Now, every time I read a magazine or turn on the Internet, I am greeted with several things about the show's star, Miley Cyrus, that makes me disappointed. For example, she is getting new tattoos. Last week, it showed her getting the soles of her feet inked. Or, she is taking off her clothes and posing naked. She said that she was born to be wild.
I like Hannah better than I do Miley.

Bokoshe falls in home game to Midway Chargers on Friday

October 7, 2013

BOKOSHE — When the Bokoshe Tigers entertained the Midway Chargers on Friday night, there was going to be a team that was going to pick up win No. 1 in 2013. Unfortunately it wasn't the Tigers.
The Chargers came to town and left with a 63-16 victory over the Tigers. No more information was reported on the game.

Regional tournaments rough on local teams; only Poteau Lady Pirates left

October 7, 2013

The high school fast-pitch softball and fall baseball regional tournaments were rough on our local teams this past weekend.
We started with eight teams on the diamond, and now we're down to just one set of diamond dolls — the Poteau Lady Pirates, who will be in the Class 4A Regional Tournament later this week to try to make state for the first time in eight years. The schedule is at the end of this column.
