March 2, 2013

The Poteau Pirates and Lady Pirates soccer teams will open their 2013 seasons Saturday in the Sykes Invitational, which this year will be played at three different sites due to its normal site, Ben Geren Park, having its soccer field too wet on which to play.
Both teams will play back-to-back at the three sites being used this year — Van Buren (Ark.) High School, Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside and Greenwood (Ark.) high schools.
The Pirates will play Van Buren at 10 this morning, followed by the Lady Pirates facing Van Buren at 11 this morning. Both games will be at Van Buren.

We're back! My favorite time of the year has arrived as the spring baseball and slow-pitch softball seasons will begin today for a few teams and most everyone else next week.
For those new to the area, this column runs usually every Tuesday morning with the ins and outs, ups and downs, what's upcoming, the weekly schedules in both sports and Pitchers and Hitters of the Week in each sport — by the way, coaches, you may nominate players for those honors is you wish.
