Wister boys fall short of making state, lose to Tushka in consolation finals

BYNG — The Wister Wildcats baseball team was trying to get back to state, but they'll have to wait for spring to have another shot.
The Wildcats suffered a 7-4 loss to the Tushka Tigers in the Class A Regional Tournament consolation finals Friday afternoon at Stokes Field. The Tigers eliminated No. 1 Byng on the Pirates' own field in the early game on Friday afternoon.
The ’Cats lost the regional title game 3-1 to the Latta Panthers on Thursday night, and they finish the season at 18-14.

PHS freshmen, PKMS eighth-grade teams beat Sallisaw; seventh-grade falls

The good guys won two of the three football games played Thursday at Costner Stadium. The Poteau Pirates freshmen team posted an 8-6 win over the Sallisaw Black Diamonds in a game which only saw one half of football played.
The Pansy Kidd Middle School eighth-grade Raiders had little problem in handling Sallisaw, winning 32-8.
However, the first game of the tripleheader saw the Black Diamonds defeat the seventh-grade Raiders 28-16.

Poteau's victory over Sallisaw highlighted Week 4's action on gridiron

After six years of frustration, the Poteau Pirates ended their losing streak to their archrivals, the Sallisaw Black Diamonds — posting a 34-9 win at Sallisaw's Perry F. Lattimore Stadium in their District 4A-4 opener.
However, that wasn't the only big win by our locals on the night.
The Panama Razorbacks (District 2A-6), Spiro Bulldogs (District 3A-8) and the Talihina Golden Tigers (District A-6) also won their district openers.

Local softball teams eliminated at 2A Regional Tournament; Colbert girls deny Panama third straight trip to state

WISTER — The Panama Lady Razorbacks softball team was hoping to make it three straight trips to state, but they didn't quite make it.
After a Panama two-out rally in the Class 2A Regional Tournament championship game tied the game at 3, the Colbert Lady Leopards scored a run in the 11th inning to win the title 4-3 to make state.
The Lady ’Backs (ending the season at 23-15), who earlier eliminated the archrival Pocola Lady Indians 9-8, staved off elimination Thursday night by outlasting the host Wister Lady Wildcats 1-0 in eight innings to end Wister's season at 17-9.

Oktaha girls end season for Heavener Lady Wolves

OKTAHA — There was one team that kept the Heavener Lady Wolves softball team from making the Class 3A State Tournament — the Oktaha Lady Tigers.
The Lady Tigers blanked the Lady Wolves 10-0 in Friday afternoon's title game of the regional tournament after the Lady Wolves staved off elimination with an 11-9 come-from-behind win over the Stigler Lady Panthers.
The Lady Wolves lost the winner's-bracket final Thursday night 10-8 to the host Lady Tigers.
The Lady Wolves end the season at 30-11.

Howe girls' season ends with loss to Rattan Lady Rams

WRIGHT CITY — The Howe Lady Lions saw their softball season come to an end with a 14-1 loss tot the Rattan Lady Rams in Friday afternoon's loser's-bracket final of the Class A Regional Tournament.
The Lady Lions stayed alive to play on Friday with a 3-0 win over the Porum Lady Panthers on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Lions end the season at 17-14.

Hartshorne Miners too much for Panama boys

PANAMA — Led by Dallas Herring's four touchdowns, the Hartshorne Miners rolled up more than 400 yards total offense while shutting out the Panama Razorbacks 34-0 in a District 2A-6 game Friday night at George Ollie Stadium.

Hugo Buffaloes roam over Pocola

POCOLA — The Hugo Buffaloes scored 59 unanswered points routing the Pocola Indians 59-14 Friday on homecoming/pink-out night at John Carter Field in a District 2A-6 contest.

Heavener beats Roland in OT

HEAVENER — The Heavener Wolves gave the fans a barnburner in their first home game of the season, downing Roland in a 20-14 in overtime Friday night at Harvey Stadium in a District 3A-8 contest.
The game was supposed to have been for homecoming, but homecoming festivities have been rescheduled for the Spiro game on Oct. 17.
