Poteau senior golfer wants to go out with one more state title

Last spring was a magical one for the Poteau Lady Pirates golf team as it won the Class 4A State Tournament and Hannah Ward won the individual state championship.
“It really sunk in about the time it happened,” said Poteau senior golfer Cathleen Manlove. “It was just exciting and overwhelming. It was one of those experiences that you never forget.”
Ever since last spring, Manlove has tried to make herself even better than she was a season ago.

Half of the four LeFlore County high school baseball teams remaining were named regional hosts for this week's regional tournaments, which will begin Thursday.
The Poteau Pirates will have more home games at Town Creek Park as they were named the host team for the Class 4A Regional Tournament, welcoming Broken Bow, Byng and Muldrow.
The Poteau Pirates will face the Savages at 11 a.m. Wednesday, followed by the Bulldogs and the Byng Pirates at 1 p.m. The winners will play at 3 p.m. in the winner's-bracket final, while the losers will play in an elimination game at 5 p.m.

Whitesboro's baseball season ends at regional tournament

TUPELO — It was a quick stay for the Whitesboro Bulldogs baseball team at the Class B Regional Tournament on Thursday.
The Bulldogs lost 11-3 to eventual regional champion Moss, then fell 15-5 to see their season end at 14-13.

NOC-Enid baseball team sweeps pair from Carl Albert on Sunday; Monday's game against Eastern postponed; Vikings will face Connors State Tuesday night in Warner

After the Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Jets defended their home baseball field, David Allen Memorial Ballpark, in a doubleheader sweep of Carl Albert on Thursday, the Vikings hoped they could return the favor Sunday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field. It didn't happen.
The Jets came to town and swept the Vikings 5-1 and the nightcap 2-1 in eight innings.

“A Bike for Daylon” will happen May 18. Daylon is a 13-year-old with cerebral palsy who wants a bike to ride with his family.
Funds are being raised to help his parents purchase an adaptive bike for him.

Poteau boys end golf regular season by winning Pryor Invitational; Pirates, Heavener duo, Cameron golfer in regional tournaments Monday

PRYOR — The Poteau Pirates golf team will take a lot of momentum into Monday’s Class 4A Regional Tournament at Seminole’s Jimmie Austin Golf Course.
The Pirates won their regular-season finale as they captured the Pryor Invitational on Thursday with a score of 307-308—615. They were 20 shots ahead of runner-up Muldrow (635).
Three of Poteau’s golfers were top-10 medalists. Cody Shore was runner-up medalist with a 72-76—148. Connor Wheat was fourth-place medalist (77-74—151), while John Scott Sanders was seventh-place medalist (78-77—155).

Heavener girls trio wins titles at Beavers Bend Relays on Monday

BROKEN BOW — The Heavener High School track team had three athletes win events at Monday's Beavers Bend Relays at Memorial Stadium.
Jodie Hill won the 100-meter hurdles (15.71 seconds), John Enger the 1,600-meter run (6:28) and Kamber Vasquez the high jump (4-6).
In fact, it was a local 1-2-3 finish in the high jump. Vasquez's teammate, Melyssa Lynch, was second (4-4) and Howe's Alice Stephens was third (4-2).
It was a good day for both Heavener and Howe tracksters, as many placed.

Seminole State women take four games in one day from Carl Albert; Games 3, 4 were games slated for here Friday, but played Thursday to beat possible rainout

SHAWNEE — It will likely be a long time before the Carl Albert State College softball team again plays four games in one day, which was done Thursday with Seminole State so that Friday’s home doubleheader between the two teams would not get rained out.
The Lady Belles took all four games on Thursday, winning by scores of 10-2, 11-3, 15-0 and 8-6.
The regular season is now over for the Lady Vikings, who will not play again until the Region II Tournament on May 3-5 at Oklahoma City’s Hall of Fame Stadium.

Brittney Cox Memorial Golf Tournament Rained Out

The second annual Brittney Cox Memorial Golf Tournament, which was slated for Saturday at Choctaw Country Club, was rained out.
It has not been rescheduled.
