September 14, 2013

PANAMA — A week ago, the Panama Razorbacks opened their 2013 season with a 34-0 rout of the Gore Pirates at George Ollie Stadium.
Friday night at the same site, things were totally different as the Hogs fell 40-12 to the Roland Rangers.

Pocola has little problem in downing Haileyville for first win

September 14, 2013

POCOLA — Things were about as completely opposite as could be for the Pocola Indians football team Friday night at John Carter Field.
After losing a 23-20 game in last week's season opener to Tulsa Regent Prep due to nine turnovers, things went about as smooth as possible in a 73-29 rout of the Haileyville Warriors.

Spiro travels to meet Muldrow tonight in battle of Bulldogs

September 13, 2013

There will be one thing for sure when Spiro's football team travels to meet Muldrow in a 7:30 p.m. contest tonight. The Bulldogs will get their first win of the season. The only question which won't be answered until about late news time tonight is which Bulldogs.
Spiro (0-1) is coming off a 32-14 loss to the Vian Wolverines in a game which was close for about a half.

Talihina to meet much improved Antlers Bearcats tonight

September 13, 2013

Things could not have started much better than they did for the Talihina Golden Tigers football team Friday night as they blasted the Wilburton Diggers 70-22 at Doc Robinson Stadium in the season opener.
“We were awesome on offense,” Talihina coach Kelly Gravitt said. “We made our blocking assingments. We were physical and got after it. Our defense was sound. They did a great job, and it was a great opener. They didn't look like it was a Week 1 game. They looked sharp. It was a good game for us.”

Here comes Dr. Adams to the rescue

September 13, 2013

On Sept. 5, I went to Dr. Scott Clark's office to get some lab work done to make sure I'm in peak condition.
I was out in the parking lot, and I was looking at this nice ol' 1983 Kingfisher bass boat that was parked in the lot. It looked brand spanking new. I couldn't believe how new it looked. I was rubbing my hand across the carpet in a daze when I walked into Mike Sullivan, who said, “Isn't that a nice one? I used to have one just like her!”

Poteau Pirates hope to give 'Pointers' to Van Buren tonight

September 12, 2013

It will be hard to match what happened last Friday night in the season opener for the Poteau Pirates football team. For the second straight year, they rallied from a deficit to down the Durant Lions, this time in double overtime by a score of 43-42 at Costner Stadium.
“It was wild,” Poteau coach Greg Werner said. “It's one of those games that's highly emotional. It was definitely a crazy way to start things.”
Such a win can do wonders for a team. Luckily it was the Pirates who won such a contest last week.

Pocola looks to rebound from season-opening loss tonight against Haileyville

September 12, 2013

The Pocola Indians football team had a rough start to the season last week in its 23-20 loss to Tulsa Regent Prep at John Carter Field. The Indians committed nine turnovers.
If the Indians want to get win No. 1 of 2013 tonight when they entertain the Haileyville Warriors at 7:30 p.m. at John Carter Field, they can't do that.
“We can't make the mistakes we made Friday night if we want to be victorious,” Pocola coach Rick Lang said. “We have to be more disciplined on both sides of the ball. Special teams killed us. It was not a good night.”
