Former Poteau pitcher gets first save for NSU

Former Poteau Pirates pitcher Wilson Klutts, a freshmen at Northeastern Oklahoma State University, got his first collegiate save on Wednesday as he threw three hitless innings in the first game against Panhandle State. The RiverHawks won the game 18-3.

Heavener golfer fourth-place medalist at Atoka Invitational; Wolves, Cameron golfer will play in regional qualifiers Monday

ATOKA — Heavener’s Jackson Long was fourth-place medalist at the Atoka Invitational, which took place Thursday at Atoka Trails Golf Course. He shot an 89.
Chance Dunigan shot a 101, while Colt Dunigan carded a 103 for the Wolves, who played in their final regular-season tournament.
The Heavener trio will be in the Class 3A Regional Qualifier on Monday at Cherokee Trails Golf Course in Tahlequah.
Cameron golfer Kody Whitehead will be in the Class 2A Regional Qualifier on Monday at Pryor Creek Golf Course in Pryor.

Local track athletes place at Warner Invitational

WARNER — Four local track athletes placed at the Warner Invitational on April 9.
Heavener’s Kamber Vasquez won the high jump, while Talihina’s Keisha Brown won the long jump (14-10).
Brown was runner-up in the 100-meter dash (13.41 seconds), while teammate Tara Hawkins was second in the 400-meter dash (1:05) and the 800-meter run (2:33).
Heavener’s Bryce Tollison was runner-up in the discus and shot put.
Hawkins was third in the 200-meter dash (29 seconds).

Poteau golfers nab three top-10 medalist honors at Hilldale Invitational on Friday; Pirates beat host team, Sallisaw

MUSKOGEE — This weekend got off to a great start for the Poteau Pirates golf team.
The Pirates not only won Friday’s Hilldale Invitational, but they had the three of the top 10 medalists to boot.
Cody Shore was the top medalist with a 73, followed by teammate Connor Wheat as second-place medalist with a 77. Jarrett Lowrimore was 10th-place medalist with an 84.
As a team, the Pirates won the event with a 320, followed by Hilldale (342) and Sallisaw (343).
As for the rest of the team, John Scott Sanders with an 86, followed by Connor Bandy with an 87 and John Buckles with a 98.

Carl Albert baseball team rained out Thursday at NOC-Tonkawa, rescheduled for Sunday; Busy week ahead for Vikings; Friday's CASC home softball twinbill rescheduled for next Friday

The Carl Albert State College baseball team was rained out in its Thursday road doubleheader against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa. The two teams will make up that twinbill at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Vikings and the Mavericks will play two games beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ival Goodman Field.
That doubleheader sets up four straight days of action for the Vikings. After playing back-to-back twinbills against NOC-Tonkawa, the Vikings will make up their single nine-inning home game against Connors State College at 3 p.m. Monday — the game was rained out on March 30.

O'Daniel, Faulkenberry wins open tournament on Sardis

The LeFlore County Bass Club had its second open tournament Saturday at Potato Hills South on Sardis Lake.
There were 16 boats that caught 38 fish weighing a collective 131.86 pounds. The average weight of each fish was 3.47 pounds, with six limits caught.
The duo of Tim O'Daniel and Rodney Faulkenberry took home first-place honors with 22.19 pounds to earn $350.
Haskell and A.J. Higgins were second with 19.39 pounds — 8.33 of which was A.J.'s big bass winner. The duo earned $210 for the second-place finish, while A.J. got an additional $140 for the big bass winner.

Heavener girls’ bid to return to state denied at Class 5A District Tournament

ROLAND — The Heavener Lady Wolves were trying to return to the Class 5A State Tournament, but it didn’t happen.
The Lady Wolves went 2-2 in Tuesday’s Class 4A District Tournament, beating Roland 7-4 and Muldrow 5-4 but losing twice to the Lady Bulldogs 3-1 and 11-4 to see their season end at 16-15.

Howe girls’ season ends at home in Class 3A District Tournament

HOWE — The good news for the Howe Lady Lions is they opened the Class 3A District Tournament at home with an 8-3 win over the Gans Lady Grizzlies on Tuesday afternoon.
However, after that it was all Fort Towson Lady Tigers. After eliminating Gans, the Lady Tigers then beat the Lady Lions twice by scores of 18-3 and 14-0 to win the district title.
Howe ends the season at 11-11.

Red Oak sweeps Whitesboro girls to win Class A District Tournament to win Class A District Tournament

RED OAK — The Red Oak Lady Eagles had too much firepower and overpowered the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs to win the Class A District Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles took the opener 15-1, then won the nightcap 11-1. The losses end the season for the Lady Bulldogs (5-17).

Lady Pirate golfer, team win Roland Invitational titles; Poteau Girls Invitational postponed (UPDATE)

FORT SMITH, Ark. — Poteau’s Hannah Ward and her Lady Pirates, both the Class 4A defending state champions, captured titles at Tuesday’s Roland Invitational, which took place at Ben Geren Golf Course.
Ward was the top medalist for the second straight day this week as she shot a 71.
As a team, the Lady Pirates won the team title with a 358.
Skylynn Terry, Cathleen Manlove and Dallas Terry joined Ward as a medalist. Skylynn Terry was fourth with an 88, Manlove carded a 95 to win eighth-place medalist honors and Dallas Terry shot a 103 to earn the 10th-place medalist spot.
