Playoffs now getting hot and heavy for county teams

Now, the second season — otherwise known as the playoffs — will get going hot and heavy this week. All Class A and B teams that got out of their respective district tournaments will be in regional tournaments Thursday through Saturday.
All Class 4A, 3A and 2A teams will begin postseason play Friday and Saturday in district tournaments.
The complete playoff schedule will be listed at the end of this column.
Column will move to Wednesdays beginning next week

Anyone interested in coaching a Poteau City League baseball/softball team for the 2013 season should contact Billy Bond at (918) 647-1939 or via e-mail at parcball@windstream.net.
The first coaches meeting will be at 1 p.m. March 9 at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The season will begin April 29.

Any team interested in playing in the 2013 Green Country League at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex should have a representative attend the first coaches meeting at 2 p.m. March 9 at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.

Eastern teams rout Lady Vikings, Vikings

WILBURTON — The Eastern Oklahoma State College Mountaineers outscored the Carl Albert State College Vikings 58-24 in the second half in their 89-56 win over the Vikings on Thursday night at Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse.
Despite getting 15 points from D. Brown, it wasn't enough for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in their 72-48 loss to the Eastern Oklahoma State College Lady Mountaineers in the first game of Thursday night's doubleheader.

Quinton teams take pair from Pocola

QUINTON — After getting road wins Tuesday night at Stigler, the second of two road games this week did not go in favor of the Pocola High School basketball teams.
The Indians and Lady Indians were swept at the hands of the Quinton teams on Thursday night. The Savages got past the Indians 58-45, while the Lady Savages rallied to defeat the Lady Indians 45-42.

CASC softball team suffers home sweep in season openers

It was a rough start to the 2013 season for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team Thursday afternoon at home.
The Lady Vikings lost 11-3 and 10-1 — the latter game in a five-inning, run-rule contest — to Paris, Texas.
The Lady Vikings will return to action when they have a doubleheader rematch with Paris, beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Paris, Texas.
