GREENWOOD, Ark. — The Spiro Bulldogs basketball team took advantage of the fact that the Hillbillies from Ozark, Ark., did not have their complete team when it came to Friday afternoon's game in the H.B. Stewart Classic, since the Hillbillies played for a state football title on Saturday.
The Bulldogs proved too much for the depleted Hillbillies to post a 67-41 victory.
However, the Lady Hillbillies were able to get a win for Ozark, which downed the Spiro Lady Bulldogs 57-40.
PARK HILL — The Poteau Lady Pirates basketball team ended its stay at the Keys Cougars Invitational on the right foot after beating Tulsa Holland Hall 48-43 Saturday afternoon in the third-place game.
The Pirates lost the consolation championship game to Holland Hall 45-37 in the game before after they won their first game of the season with a 56-52 win over the Fort Gibson junior varsity on Friday.
TALIHINA — The good news was the host Talihina High School basketball teams brought home some hardware from the 2012 Choctaw Nation Tournament, which concluded Saturday night on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium. Unfortunately, neither host team won first place.
The Golden Tigers lost 44-39 to the Rattan Rams in Saturday night's championship game after beating the Pocola Indians 59-46 in Friday night's semifinals.
VAN BUREN, Ark. — The Poteau Pirates wrestling team continued its strong performance in the early going this season as it dominated the Van Buren Pointers by a score of 66-13 in Thursday night's dual.
The Pirates will return to the mat at 7 p.m. Tuesday on the road to meet Fort Gibson in the first of their three Class 4A District Duals. The team with the best district duals record between Poteau, Fort Gibson, Wagoner and Sallisaw will represent the district at the Class 4A Dual State Tournament in February.

The entry fee is $10 per player, with no team having more than four players.
While the football season ended for LeFlore County two weeks ago and ending this weekend with the final three state title games being played, I'd be remiss if I didn't congratulate the Talihina Golden Tigers on a great run in the Class A playoffs.
After missing the playoffs last season, they got to the state quarterfinals before losing 43-24 to the Cashion Wildcats on Nov. 23 at Doc Robinson Stadium.
I know no team wants to lose its last game, but no need to hang your heads, Golden Tigers. You had a great season, and congratulations for it.
