While the rain showers which fell on LeFlore County were welcomed, they weren't by local high school fast-pitch softball and baseball teams.
Three softball and four baseball teams saw their season-openers rained out Tuesday afternoon.
Softball games rained out were Poteau at Pryor and Heavener and Smithville at Whitesboro, and none of them have been rescheduled at this time.
On the baseball diamond, games which fell victim to Tuesday's rain were Cameron at Wister, Panola at Leflore and Howe at McCurtain, with none of the games rescheduled.
While summer will not end until next month, for all intents and purposes it really has — at least for me.
The 2013 fall high school fast-pitch softball season and baseball season will get under way this week.
So, officially my summer ended on Monday when I went up to cover the opening day of the Pocola Invitational — as well as photograph two high school football teams' opening day of practice.
All I can say is, “Let the games begin.”

The Heavener High School football tailgate party that was scheduled for Monday night at Harvey Stadium was postponed due to threatening weather conditions.
The event has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Friday.
There will be many spirit items for sale at various booths.
There will be hamburgers and hotdogs as well as other concessions.
There will be a water slide and a bounce house for children (tickets required).
The HHS cheerleaders and football players will be introduced followed by a mini scrimmage around 8:30 p.m.
When high school football practice begins next week, players can only be in shorts and helmets from Monday through Thursday. They will not be in pads until Friday.
Nonetheless, a lot can be accomplished — especially on offense.
