The LeFlore County Bass Club had its first tournament of the 2013 circuit Saturday at Grasshopper Landing on Broken Bow Lake. There were 30 boats of anglers who caught 94 fish with a combined weight of 205.08 pounds. The average fish caught weighed 2.18 pounds. There were 13 limits brought to the weigh-in scales.
Kevin Bell and Jesse Patton won the tournament with a total of 13.96 pounds, including Pattonâ€™s big bass winner of four pounds even. The duo pocketed $430, and Patton earned an additional $285 for his big bass winner.
When the Poteau Lady Pirates faced the Stilwell Lady Indians just before Christmas, one of Stilwell's leading players, Sara Fountain did not play â€” and the Lady Pirates won by 20 points, 49-29.
When the two teams had their rematch Tuesday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse, Fountain was back â€” and she made a difference. The good thing was the Lady Pirates still found a way to prevail, winning 54-50.
The Indians handled the Pirates 64-39 in the boys contest.
HEAVENER â€” Just before the 81st LeFlore County Tournament, the Pocola Indians rallied to down the Heavener Wolves in overtime. Tuesday night at the Heavener High School gym, the roles ended up reversed.
The Wolves rallied from a first-quarter deficit to down the Indians 48-40.
Trailing 15-4 after one period, the Wolves outscored the Indians 44-25 over the final three periods to get the come-from-behind win.
Arkoma 53, Bokoshe 30: In Arkoma, the Mustangs made it a happy homecoming with the victory.
ARKOMA â€” When the Arkoma Lady Mustangs and the Bokoshe Lady Tigers met Jan. 18 at Bokoshe Tigers Fieldhouse, the Lady Tigers prevailed by two points. The Lady Mustangs not only avenged that loss, but made it a happy homecoming with a 59-56 victory Tuesday night at the Arkoma High School gym.
With the game tied at 16 after a period, the Lady Mustangs edged the Lady Tigers by a point in the second quarter, 15-14, to take a 31-30 halftime lead.
Spring is just around the corner, and the weather is giving us brief glimpses of what is in store. I am getting excited about doing some fishing and turkey hunting.
Chuck Restine sent me a picture of a good stringer of bass he caught at Broken Bow last weekend. It is about time to try and catch some bass.
Kaye Carter has informed me that Dan and I are going to catch her some crappie this spring, and you can bet that we are going to do our best to make her very happy.
