Dates for tryouts for cheerleading, basketball, baseball and softball at Carl Albert State College have been scheduled throughout the month of April.
Cheerleading tryouts will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Menâ€™s basketball team tryouts will begin at 1:30 p.m. April 16, while Lady Viking basketball tryouts will take place at 2:30 p.m. April 18 â€” both at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Baseball and softball tryouts will take place at 10:30 a.m. May 21, baseball at Ival Goodman Field and softball at the softball field.
My cousin, Jason Sampson, will be my guide and hunting partner for the weekend. We are going to be hunting on Hickory Creek Wildlife Management Area and some private land.

Last weekend was the youth season in many counties, and my buddy, Dean Armstrong, took his son, Jacob, on a hunt. The day was special because it was Jacobâ€™s 14th birthday.
Dean bought a Double Cross call from Stephen Billy of Poteau, and used it to call in a gobbler for Jacob to kill for his birthday bird.
The Poteau Chip-In Club will have a golf benefit beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at Choctaw Country Club.
The event was originally scheduled March 23, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
The entry fee for the three-person scramble is $30 per player.
All proceeds will go to the Poteau High School golf programs to help with travel expenses, indoor training facility and golf outerwear.

The Poteau Kiwanis Club Little Olympics will begin at 6 p.m. April 11 at Costner Stadium.
HUGO â€” Fresh off their ranking of No. 1 in the Class 4A soccer poll, the Poteau Pirates had little problem in their first game after being voted the top team in the state. The Pirates humbled the Hugo Buffaloes 10-0 Tuesday night in their second district game of the season.
However, the Poteau Lady Pirates were not as successful in their district road opener as they lost 3-0 to the Keys (Park Hill) Lady Cougars on Tuesday night in Park Hill.
This afternoonâ€™s Carl Albert State College home softball doubleheader against Western Oklahoma State College has been rained out. No make-up date has been set.
However, Carl Albertâ€™s home twinbill against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, which was rained out here on Feb. 28, has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. April 16.
ROLAND â€” The Poteau Lady Pirates got the season sweep of the Roland Lady Rangers, winning 11-4 Monday afternoon.
Howe 7, Cameron 6, 10 inn.; Howe 8, Sallisaw-Central 3; Cameron 7, Sallisaw-Central 4: In Sallisaw, the Lady Lions got a pair of wins in the three-game festival.
In the win over Cameron, Alli Ford's bases-loaded walk with one out forced home Keely Griffith with the game-winning run.
In Howe's win over the host Lady Tigers, the Lady Lions clawed their way to a 4-0 lead in the opening inning.
SAVANNA â€” It was the Clark Austin show in Monday afternoon's road game against the Savanna Bulldogs.
The Talihina senior hit a grand-slam home run and got the pitching victory as the Golden Tigers routed the Dawgs 18-3.
Editor's note â€” Talihina's Tuesday home game with Smithville was rained out, with no rescheduled date set as of press time.
IDABEL â€” Three Heavener Wolves were able to hit the links Tuesday before the rain hit at the Valliant Invitational at the Idabel Country Club.
Jackson Long shot an 86, and likely will finish in the top 15 but not high enough to medal.
Colt Dunigan shot a 96, while Chance Dunigan carded a 106.
Poteau's golf teams were rained out of their respective tournaments on Tuesday, the Pirates at the Fort Gibson Tournament and the Lady Pirates at the Hilldale Invitational in Muskogee.
It took a while Monday night at Town Creek Park, but the Poteau Pirates baseball team finally was able to put away the pesky Panama Razorbacks by a score of 11-0 in a six-inning, run-rule victory.
The Hogs opened the day with a 9-5 come-from-behind victory over the Whitesboro Bulldogs.
Due to Tuesdayâ€™s rain, the Day 2 games were rained out.
The Pirates will meet the Cameron Yellowjackets at 6 p.m. Friday in Cameron in the winnerâ€™s-bracket quarterfinals.
