PARIS, Texas — For the second time in a week, the Carl Albert State College softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Paris, Texas.
After Paris took the season-opening twinbill Feb. 7 in Poteau, Paris did the same thing to Carl Albert on Thursday afternoon by taking a doubleheader by scores of 7-5 and 4-0.
The Lady Vikings will have their own festival Saturday afternoon at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.

TAHLEQUAH — The Poteau Youth Wrestling Club qualified 12 members for this weekend's state tournament at Oklahoma City's State Fair Arena.
At last weekend's regional tournament, 12 of the 20 members placed to punch their tickets to state.
In Divisions I and III action in last weekend's regional tournament, Dauntay Warren was runner-up, Mason Barcheers was fourth and Grant Ford and Kadin Repass were sixth. Other wrestlers who participated in these divisions but did not qualify were Remington Reed and Ethan Carey.
LEFLORE — It was 2-for-2 for LeFlore County basketball teams at the Class B Regional Tournament on Thursday afternoon at the Leflore High School gym.
The homestanding Savages got past the Eagletown Eagles 54-46 right after the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs routed the Graham (Weleetka) Lady Chieftains 63-35.
KIOWA — The Class A playoff run for the Cameron High School basketball teams came to an end Thursday afternoon with losses to Smithville in the Class A Regional Tournament.
The Lady Braves handled the Lady Yellowjackets 49-37 to end their season at 2-23, while the Braves got past the ’Jackets 49-39 to end their campaign at 9-17.
Just as LeFlore County’s Class A and B high school basketball teams are in the middle of their second stage of postseason play, the county’s Class 4A, 3A and 2A teams will finally get to begin their “second season” tonight and Saturday night in district tournaments.
Class 4A District Tournament
Stilwell at Poteau, 6:30 and 8 p.m.
Class 3A District Tournament

The good news is the Poteau High School basketball teams were awarded being hosts for Friday night’s Class 4A District Tournament at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The bad news is the Pirates will have to meet the Stilwell Indians, who have beaten them twice — 43-37 on Dec. 17 in Stilwell and 74-47 on Feb. 1 at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
If the third time is to be the charm when the Pirates play the Indians at 8 p.m. Friday after the girls contest at 6:30 p.m., three key things will need to happen — at least in one senior’s opinion.
On Thursday of last week, I left home to attend “Uncle” Don Barnes' funeral service. Howard “Roy D. Mercer” Cagle had a sheet of plywood he was delivering to my shop. Now, here's where things get complicated.
Six Poteau High School wrestlers will have one last chance to make it to state before hanging up their singlets for good.
Will Longenbaugh (126 pounds), Tyler Tustin (138), Grant Wilson (152), Kyle Kingrey (160), Derek Francis (170) and Gabe Sanchez (195) will participate in the two-day Class 4A regional Tournament in Glenpool, which will begin Friday.
Talihina's wrestlers will be in the Class 3A Regional Tournament the same two days at Berryhill High School in Tulsa in hopes of making state.
The Wister athletes are giving away a Massimo gas powered buggy along with many other prizes including several guns on Saturday. A $20 ticket will get you a chili dinner for you and your family, and a chance to win the many prizes.
The last ticket drawn will win the buggy, and they give away something every 25 or 50 tickets. It is a good time with good people for a good cause.
If you haven’t got your ticket yet, go see a Wister athlete or head down to Wister Food and pick one up. However, you better hurry because they are going fast.
Have a great week!
