No game once again for Bokoshe this week

October 23, 2012

BOKOSHE — After a two week hiatus from the football field, the Bokoshe Tigers were hoping to return to action this week in a battle of Tigers at Maud. However, that Tiger tussle will have to wait until next year.
For the second straight District C-4 game, the Tigers (1-7 overall, 0-6 in district play) will have to forfeit to Maud (5-3, 3-3) due to lack of players.
“I think we'd have enough to play a basketball game because you only need eight players for that,” said Tyler Massey, Bokoshe's second-year coach. “But we just don't have enough for a football game.”

TULSA — The streak continues for the Poteau High School cross-country teams.

Pirates need to win out by maximum margins to ensure 4A playoff berth

October 23, 2012

Just after the Poteau Pirates had perhaps their best football game of the year against the Muldrow Bulldogs Thursday night at Costner Stadium, a bit of bad news came across the internet that might throw a major glitch into their playoff run. Broken Bow defeated the Sallisaw Black Diamonds by the score of 35-28. That means that if the Pirates even win out, more than likely the final two playoff berths from District 4A-4 will be decided by district points, which are determined by how many points a team wins or loses by each week during district play.

October 23, 2012

SHAWNEE — Heavener High School senior cross-country runner Jose Farias ended his prep career at the ultimate meet, the Class 3A State Meet on Saturday morning at Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech Center.
However, the goal Farias desired to get in Saturday's meet did not happen as he was 54th with a time of 19:07.
Farias was hoping for a Top 10 finish, which would have earned him All-State honors, and running below the 18-minute mark.

Local owner's horse wins Friday race

October 22, 2012

OKLAHOMA CITY — The 20th Oklahoma Classics were contested Friday night at Remington Park. The full slate of Oklahoma-bred stakes races did not disappoint with a mix of favorites and stars winning along with a few longshots.
Fifth Date, an 8-year-old gelding who primarily has competed in sprint races his entire career, scored the top race of the evening in the $155,500 Chickasaw Nation Oklahoma Classics Cup, powered by TVG. Easily the biggest win for Fifth Date, it happened just two races after he was claimed for $18,000.
