Poteau High School wrestler Tyler Tustin was named as the starting 138-pounder for the East team at the 2013 All State Games this July. Tustin will face Anadarko's BlakeÂ Trescott.
Tustin finished his career 168-8, which put him as the leader in most career wins and pins as well as highest career winning percentage.
Talihina Lady Golden Tiger basketball player Tara Hawkins has been named to the East team for the 2013 Oklahoma Girls Basketabll Coaches Association All-State Games, which will be June 1 in Norman.
Hawkins averaged 11.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.3 steals this past season with 62 blocked shots. She scored 319 points, was 73-of-152 (45 percent) from the field, 28-of-91 (31 percent) on 3-point shooting and 89-of-129 (70 percent) in free-throw shooting. She had 224 rebounds, 90 assists and 89 steals.
WARNER â€” The Carl Albert Lady Vikings softball team picked up a pair of road wins Thursday afternoon against the Connors State College Cowgirls.
The Lady Vikings got a run-ruled 15-6 victory in the opener, then broke a 4-all tie in the seventh inning for a 5-4 win.
The Poteau Lady Pirates didn't let a six-day layoff bother them as they routed the Roland Rangers 12-1 in a four-inning, run-rule home game Thursday afternoon.
BROKEN ARROW â€” Poteau golfers Cody Shore and Hannah Ward won individual titles at the Tulsa McLain/TSST Tournament, which took place Tuesday and Wednesday at Forest Ridge Golf Course.
Shore shot a 74 to win the tournament, which he clinched on his final hole with a birdie putt.
As a team, the Pirates were fourth with a team score of 341, and were the highest Class 4A school to place among the Class 5A and 6A teams who were in the 30-team field.
ARROWHEAD RESORT â€” The Poteau boys junior high golf team swept the titles at Tuesday's tournament.
Poteau won the team title with a 396, and golfer Ryan Ward won the individual title with an 82.
Bryce Weldon shot a 98, followed by Bryan Terry at 105, Jeremiah Loggains at 111 and Grant Buckles at 117.
The LeFlore County Bass Club had its first open tournament of 2013 on Saturday at Wards Landing on Wister Lake. There were 26 boats that had 46 fishermen who caught a total of 63 fish that weighed a composite total of 168.66 pounds. Each fish averaged weighing 2.68 pounds, and eight limits were caught.
The team of Doug and Dwight Camp won the event with 15.72 pounds of fish caught to earn $575.
Bryan Ollie and Dwayne Caughern were second (15.35 pounds, $345), while Brad Hall and Robert Wellman were third (15.01, $230). Wellman had the big bass winner, weighing 5.88 pounds to earn him $230.
The Carl Albert State College baseball team had its road doubleheader against Arkansas Baptist on Tuesday afternoon in Little Rock, Ark., canceled. The twinbill has not been rescheduled.
The Vikings (10-7) will return to action in a home three-day series with Southwestern College, Iowa, beginning Saturday at Ival Goodman Field.
Games begin each day at 1 p.m.
In the Poteau Pirates baseball team's home opener Saturday afternoon at Town Creek Park, Stilwell's 11-run sixth inning spoiled things.
When the Pirates returned to Town Creek Park for Tuesday's home game against the Red Oak Eagles, the Pirates were three outs away from their second home loss. The Pirates made sure that wasn't going to happen.
A one-out, seventh-inning rally lifted the Pirates to a 4-3 come-from-behind win over the Eagles.
