OKLAHOMA CITY â€” Poteau High School golfer Hannah Ward tied for 11th place at this week's 62nd annual Girls Junior Championship, which took place Tuesday and Wednesday at Willow Creek Country Club.
Ward, who was the Class 4A State Tournament individual state title and helped the Lady Pirates win the team state title, shot an 81-78 and tied Haley Hill for 11th place at 159.
Caroline Goodin was top medalist as she shot a 72-71â€”143, beating Megan Blonien (75-71â€”146) and Maci Arrington (74-72â€”146) by three shots.
There were 52 golfers in the field.
Carl Albert State College Assistant Softball Coach Megan Young will give softball lessons at $25 per hour to girls up through age 18.

Friday Couple Scrambles will take place at 5:30 p.m. every Friday at Wolf Ridge Golf Course. The entry fee is $15 per person for the nine-hole weekly event.

The 2012 Poteau Quarterback Club Youth Football Camp will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. July 30-Aug. 1 at Costner Stadium.
ELK CITY â€” The Poteau Pirates OK Kids Midget baseball team won the 2012 Regional Tournament the hard way last week at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex. If they want to win the state title, they will have to do the same thing this week.
The Pirates lost their opening-round game 11-1 to the Clinton White, but stayed alive Thursday afternoon with a 2-1 nailbiting victory over Tecumseh.
CUSHING â€” The Poteau Buccaneers OK Kids PeeWee baseball team found itself two wins from a state title Thursday night.
The Buccaneers blanked the Cushing Tigers 10-0 Wednesday night in the winner's-bracket semifinals of the 2012 PeeWee State Tournament. They faced the Coleman BRW on Thursday night, with the winner being in the 6 p.m. Saturday state title game, while the loser will play at 8 p.m. tonight in the loser's-bracket final with a chance to get to the championship game.
WEATHERFORD â€” The Heavener Thunder found themselves a victory away from playing for the OK Kids Coach-Pitch State Tournament title game at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Thunder routed Tuttle 14-5 in four innings in Wednesday night's winner's-bracket semifinals at Rader Park to advance to Thursday night's winner's-bracket final against Morrison, which outlasted the Caddo Bruins 11-10 on Wednesday.
CHANDLER â€” It was a short stay for the Wister Wildcats OK Kids prep baseball team at the 2012 State Tournament.
The Wildcats suffered a 3-1 loss to the Cushing Tigers on Wednesday, then lost 5-3 in seven innings to the host Chandler Lions Thursday afternoon to be eliminated from the tournament.
In Thursday's loss, the â€™Cats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning on RBI double by Davey Bullard and an RBI single by Cody Holzhammer.
ROGERS, Ark. â€” The Eastern Oklahoma Riverdawgs Major American Legion baseball team suffered a pair of losses in a road doubleheader on Thursday, falling twice to Rogers by scores of 14-4 and 4-3.
The Riverdawgs will conclude their season with a 2 p.m. Saturday road twinbill against the Bartlesville Indians.
