Poteau, Spiro boys reach tonight’s LeFlore County Tournament title game

The Poteau Pirates and the Spiro Bulldogs will meet Tuesday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse, but they’re going to get to see each other tonight as well.
The Pirates and the ’Dogs each won their championship semifinal contest in the 83rd LeFlore County Tournament on Thursday night at the Spiro Multipurpose Gym.
Poteau knocked off the top-seeded team, the Talihina Golden Tigers, 53-50 in the first semifinal, then Spiro proved to be too much for the Leflore Savages in a 70-47 victory.
The Pirates and the Bulldogs will meet for the county championship at 8:45 tonight.

Greenwood wrestlers spoil Poteau's Senior Night; Pirates will return to action next Thrusday at Stilwell to complete district duals; this weekend's Sallisaw Tournament canceled

The Greenwood [Ark.] Bulldogs wrestling team spoiled Senior Night for the Poteau Pirates as they left town with a 40-31 victory Thursday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
Trailing 31-22 going into the final three matches, the ’Dogs not only won all three of those bouts but did so by pin to give them the come-from-behind victory.
The Pirates were originally scheduled to participate this weekend at the Sallisaw Tournament, but it was canceled.

CASC teams split home games with Connors State; Carl Albert teams face archrival Eastern on Monday night in Wilburton

Getting a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds from Kilah Cummings proved to be the difference for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in their 78-65 win over the Connors State College Cowgirls on Thursday night at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Despite getting 19 points, including five 3-point baskets from Derek Mack, it wasn’t enough for Vikings in their 87-66 loss to the sixth-nationally ranked Cowboys in Thursday night’s nightcap.

Wister, Whitesboro boys, Pocola, Leflore girls make fifth-place games

Four teams will have a chance for some hardware, but only two teams will succeed in the 83rd LeFlore County Tournament.
Today’s fifth-place games at Spiro saw their match-ups set with wins Wednesday at the Howe Gym as the Wister Wildcats and the Whitesboro Bulldogs, along with the Pocola Lady Indians and the Leflore Lady Savages, will vie for fifth-place trophies today.
The ‘Cats survived, but barely, as they outlasted the LCT host Howe Lions 49-47. The ’Dogs rallied in the final quarter to down the Heavener Wolves 39-34.

Both Panama teams, Cameron boys, Bokoshe girls reach consolation finals

Both Panama teams as well as the Cameron Yellowjackets and the Bokoshe Lady Tigers reached Thursday’s consolation finals with Wednesday night wins in the 83rd LeFlore County Tournament at Carl Albert State College’s Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
The Razorbacks got past the Arkoma Mustangs 56-52, while the Yellowjackets withstood a fourth-quarter rally by the Pocola Indians to post a 51-46 victory.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Razorbacks beat the Talihina Golden Tigers 40-25, while the Lady Tigers defeated the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs 55-49.

I finally had knee surgery

Last Friday, I finally had surgery on my knee at The River Valley Orthopedic Hopsital in Fort Smith, Ark. This facility is so nice. The cafeteria is beyond first class, and I was so surprised by the food.
But, back to my knee surgery. Dr. Steve Smith did the surgery, and he was such a great guy — I really liked him a lot.

The Poteau High School basketball teams’ Pink-Out Games will be Tuesday against Spiro at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse, with the girls’ game at 6:30 p.m. and the boys’ contest at 8 p.m.
There will be baked goods for sale with all proceeds to be donated to the American Cancer Society.

The second annual Hungry Like the Wolf 5k/10k fun run/walk and two-mile walk will take place beginning at noon Feb. 21 at Blues Park in Heavener. Race-day registration and packet pick-up will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Packets may also be picked up from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at Heavener High School.
