BARTLESVILLE — One of the big problems over the last month of the season for the Carl Albert State College baseball team was getting the big hit. It bit them big time Sunday afternoon.
The Vikings stranded eight runners on base, and could not get the big hit when needed, as they lost 2-1 to Redlands Community College in the consolation finals of the Region II Tournament at Doenges Ballpark.
The Vikings end the season at 23-31.

TULSA — Twelve years ago, the majority of players on the Poteau Pirates soccer team started their soccer careers. Their record was perfect. They did did not win a game. However over the years, these young Pirates learned how to play soccer. Then, too, their physical abilities and agilities began to develop, and they started to win games. For the past four years, the Pirates have improved their status one step at a time. This year the Pirates took the final step.
YUKON — Five Poteau High School track athletes won medals at the Class 5A State Meet, which took place Friday and Saturday at Yukon High School’s Miller Stadium.
Deven Bond won three medals, two individually. Bond was third in the 3,200-meter run (12:12.04) and fourth in the 1,600-meter run (5:33.3). She was part of the third-place 3,200-meter relay team of Colleen Peterson, Haley Griggs and Kandace Standridge that had a time of 9:56.88.
Standridge was a multiple-medal winner as well as she was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:24.73).
OKLAHOMA CITY — Poteau tennis player Skylar Abbott went 1-2 at the Class 4A State Tournament, which took place Friday and Saturday at the Will Rogers Tennis Center.
Abbott lost his first match 7-5, 6-2 to Byng’s Neil Jorgenson, then beat Oklahoma City Classen’s Jonathan Sergent 6-0, 6-2 in the consolation opening round.
However, Abbott lost to Chisholm’s Tyler Harmon 6-2, 6-3 in the second round of consolation play.

LeFlore County Youth Services will have its 20th annual Golf Tournament on May 24 at the Choctaw Country Club in Poteau.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and tee off is at 10 a.m.Â
Proceeds of this event help finance non-funded programs for the agency, including summer recreational, missing children and the Adopt-An-Angel programs.
LCYS will provide lunch, drinks and door prizes.
The tourney will be four-person teams with an entry fee of $50 per person or $200 per team.
Hole sponsorships are available for a $125 donation, which is tax deductible.
