Growing up in LeFlore County with flaming arrows

December 7, 2012

Around age 12, I got one of those little compound bow beginner kits. Of course, the first month I went around sticking arrows in anything that could get stuck by arrows. Did you know that my grandfather's 1955 40-hourse Farmall tractor tire took six rounds of arrows before going down? It was a tough sucker.
That got boring, so being a fan of “The Dukes of Hazzard” as I was, I quickly advanced to taking strips of cut-up T-shirts doused in chain saw gas, tied around the end of my arrrow and firing flaming arrows all over the place.

The late bow season is here

December 6, 2012

Gun season is over, and the second part of bow season is shaping up to be a good one. The weather has been warm and dry, so if we can get some cooler weather — and a little rain — the hunting should pick up.
The rut should be over, and deer will be on the same feeding pattern they were on in the early season. It may take a few weeks for the deer to settle down after all the hunters have left the woods after gun season, but I have always liked hunting this time of year.
Have a great week!

CASC basketball teams suffer road losses against Cowley County

December 6, 2012

Despite shooting 44 percent from the field, it wasn't enough for the Carl Albert State College Vikings in their 66-50 loss to Cowley County Community College as they picked up the season sweep of the Vikings.
Despite getting 20 points from D. Brown, an 18-point halftime deficit proved to be too much for the Carl Albert Lady Vikings in their 80-43 loss to Cowley County as its women also picked up the season sweep of the Lady Vikings.

Same official who made questionable call in OU-Oregon game was at OU-TCU contest

December 6, 2012

Did anybody else notice in the Oklahoma-Texas Christian game Saturday when R.J. Washington made a great pass rush and forced the TCU quarterback to cough up the ball. The announcers kept on saying, “It looked like his arm was moving forward. Let's go to Los Angeles, and see what our expert official has to say about the play and just what his ruling would be.” When they cut to the official, I started laughing so hard, I just about fell out of my recliner. I thought it was so ironic.
