WILBURTON â€” The Eastern Oklahoma State College Mountaineers outscored the Carl Albert State College Vikings 58-24 in the second half in their 89-56 win over the Vikings on Thursday night at Claud C. Dunlap Fieldhouse.
Despite getting 15 points from D. Brown, it wasn't enough for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in their 72-48 loss to the Eastern Oklahoma State College Lady Mountaineers in the first game of Thursday night's doubleheader.
QUINTON â€” After getting road wins Tuesday night at Stigler, the second of two road games this week did not go in favor of the Pocola High School basketball teams.
The Indians and Lady Indians were swept at the hands of the Quinton teams on Thursday night. The Savages got past the Indians 58-45, while the Lady Savages rallied to defeat the Lady Indians 45-42.
It was a rough start to the 2013 season for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team Thursday afternoon at home.
The Lady Vikings lost 11-3 and 10-1 â€” the latter game in a five-inning, run-rule contest â€” to Paris, Texas.
The Lady Vikings will return to action when they have a doubleheader rematch with Paris, beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Paris, Texas.
CLARKSVILLE, Ark. â€” The 2013 season got off on the right foot for the Carl Albert State College Vikings baseball team on Wednesday afternoon. The Vikings swept the University of the Ozarks junior varsity by scores of 15-0 and 5-0 to open the season 2-0.
The Vikings will return to action with back-to-back road doubleheaders on Monday and Tuesday. Mondayâ€™s twinbill against the Bacone College JV will begin at noon in Muskogee, while Tuesdayâ€™s doubleheader against Coffeyville, Kan., will start at 1 p.m. in Coffeyville.
Seven local wrestlers participated in the 2013 All-State Junior High Tournament, which took place last weekend at State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City.
Jarrett Lilley, a sixth-grader, Bryson Terry, a seventh-grader, and Poteau High School freshman Sam Shore all placed sixth.
Seventh-graders Race Williams and Ross Johnson, along with Poteau freshmen Roderick Hornbuckle and Landon Daily, also participated in the event.
Welcome to a special playoff edition of Cage Notes. I decided to add an extra column in Friday's edition so I could share some of my thoughts about some of our Class A and B basketball teams that will begin their postseason parades Friday night in district tournaments. I have the complete postseason schedule for this weekend listed below.

Last weekend was He-Man Punt, Pass and Kick Competition Weekend at the Jody Ray Sports Complex.
The seventh annual Junior He-Man PPK took place Saturday, with six lucky individuals placing. In the L'il He-Man Division for ages 6 to 8, Zayden â€śDowntownâ€ť Dennis won with 57 points and earned $100. Brett â€śThe Hitmanâ€ť Hoffman was second with 38 points and earned $75. Dallas â€śRomoâ€ť Roberts â€” this year's Most Improved Athlete winner â€” came in third with 24 points and pocketed $50. Caston â€śThe Dog Whispererâ€ť Qualls won the Got-a-Man Down Award.
