HEAVENER — The Heavener Thunder OK Kids Coach-Pitch baseball team finds itself only a single win away from the 2012 OK Kids State Tournament.
The Thunder handled the Stilwell Warriors 13-4 Thursdsay night at Blues Park to advance to today's championship game at 5 p.m. today. The Thunder will play one of three teams for the title — the Warriors, the Muldrow Bulldogs or the Roland Rangers.
PRESTON — There's another day of baseball for the Spiro Reds OK Kids coach-pitch baseball team. The Reds staved off elimination Thursday night with a 15-1 rout of the Prague Rebels to reach Friday night's loser's-bracket semifinal against Sallisaw.
The Reds needed to win twice on Friday, then twice on Saturday in the title games — 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. — to win the regional title and make state.
The Tishomingo BRR and the Tecumseh Blackhawks — who beat the Reds 12-5 Tuesday night — played Friday night for the right to get to the championship game undefeated.
ROLAND — The Howe Lions not only staved off elimination at the 2012 OK Kids PeeWee Regional Tournament once, but twice.
The Lions routed the Stigler Rangers 14-0, then edged the Morris Warriors 5-4 on Thursday to add at least one more day to their season.
The Lions faced the host team, the Roland Cardinals — a 9-8 winner over the Okemah Panthers in seven innings on Thursday — in Friday night's loser's-bracket semifinal.
The Howe-Roland winner was to meet the loser of Friday night's winner's-bracket final between the Poteau Buccaneers and the Whitesboro Bulldogs.
ATOKA — After being only three wins from state entering Thursday's action at the 2012 OK Kids Coach-Pitch Regional Tournament, the season came to a crashing halt for the Poteau Bombers.
The Bombers lost their winner's-bracket semifinal 9-7 in seven innings to the Caddo Bruins on Thursday despite a home run from Landon Thornburg, then fell 8-6 to the Stigler Jets in the loser's-bracket quarterfinal later that night.
The losses ended the season for the Bombers, who finished their season at 38-10.
SPIRO — After staving off elimination both Wednesday and Thursday afternoon's, the Spiro Mud Dawgs' run at the 2012 OK Kids Regional Tournament came to an end.
After blanking the Panama Razorbacks 12-0 Thursday afternoon, the Mud Dawgs then lost 9-5 that night to be eliminated from the tournament.
BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The good news was Thursday's road game against Bentonville started off good for the Eastern Oklahoma Riverdawgs Major American Legion baseball team. However, it was all Bentonville afterward as the host team posted a 13-1 victory over the Riverdawgs.
Stilwell's Zack Bean hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Spiro's Joe T. Ross, to make it 1-0 in favor of the ’Dawgs in the first inning, but that was it offensively for the locals.
The ’Dawgs will return to action this afternoon in a road doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. in Okmulgee.
