Poteau Lady Pirate basketball player Kaitlan Standridge went to participate in the United States Junior National Basketball Team tryouts on May 20 at Lighthouse Sports Complex in Oklahoma City. The goal was to make the cut from across the nation to be invited to play in next week's U.S. International Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio. She did just that.
“I really didn't think this would happen,” Standridge said. “I have never really foreseen myself coming this far in basketball. I've developed a love for the game of basketball like I have over the past two years.”

The Thunder reached tonight's state title game with a 13-3, four-inning, run-rule victory over Morrison in Thursday night's winner's-bracket final at Rader Park.
The Thunder will play at 6 p.m. tonight for the state title. The Sallisaw Titans and the Hollis Heat played in the loser's-bracket semifinal Friday night, with the winner meeting Morrison in the loser's-bracket final — with that winner playing the Thunder tonight for the state title.
