Leflore teams split road games with Clayton

CLAYTON — The Leflore High School basketball teams split their road games Thursday night with Clayton.
The Savages won the nightcap over the Bulldogs 69-62, but the Lady Bulldogs took the opened over the Lady Savages 52-6.

Poteau girls too much for Wright City in Wilburton Tournament opener, but Heavener Wolves, Lady Wolves fall

WILBURTON — The Poteau Lady Pirates wasted little time in taking charge in their opener in the Wilburton Tournament on Thursday afternoon.
Poteau got out to a double-digit lead after a period and never looked back as they defeated the Wright City Lady Lumberjax 61-31 to advance to tonight's championship semifinal at 7 p.m. against the winner of Thursday night's Hartshorne-Wilburton game. Tonight's winner will then play for the tournament title at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, while the loser will play in the third-place game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Wister boys, Howe girls get top seeds for 2013 LeFlore County JH Basketball Tournament; sites will be host Monroe, Howe, Heavener, with semifinals, finals at CASC

The Wister Wildcats and the Howe Lady Lions were selected as the top seeds of the 2013 LeFlore County Junior High Basketball Tournament at Wednesday night's seeding meeting, which took place at Western Sizzlin'.
The ’Cats are undefeated which helped them garner the No. 1 seed on the boys side, with Poteau/Pansy Kidd Middle School getting the No. 2 seed.
The Monroe Eagles, who won last weekend's Fanshawe Tournament, were seeded third, with Talihina fourth, Spiro fifth, Heavener sixth, Leflore seventh and Howe eighth.

2013 LeFlore County Bass Club Tournament circuit announced

The 2013 circuit of the LeFlore County Bass Club tournaments has been set.
The first tournament will be Jan. 26 at Grasshopper Landing on Broken Bow Lake.
On Feb. 17, the circuit will make a stop at Chicken Creek on Lake Tenkiller before going to Highway 9 East on Lake Eufaula on March 16.
The first of two stops at Potato Hills South on Sardis Lake will take place April 6, with the second stop occurring on May 19.
There will be a stop at Applegate Cove on Robert S. Kerr Reservoir on April 28.

Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members do well in last weekend's tournaments

Several Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members had successful performances last weekend in two tournaments.
At the Hulbert Novice Tournament, 21 members represented the organization, with 16 of them placing.
Logan Randolph (Division I), Braden Brown (Division II), Ethan Carey (Division III), Tyler Broom (Division IV) and Jaxon Jordan (Division IV) all won their weight-class championships.
Talan Fairless (Division I), Collin Simkins (Division IV), Cole Adams (Division IV) and Conner Williams (Division V) all came in runners-up.

Cooler weather, and changes in the wildlife rules in the wind

The weather finally feels like December, and I have been hooked up at work and haven’t got to hunt since the cold front hit. This should get the deer in feeding mode, so hunting food sources should be good this time of year.
This weekend, I am going to get to hunt at least one day, so maybe the weather will cooperate — and I can get a shot at a deer. Last weekend, Dan Carter and I took our wives on a weekend trip to stay in a cabin near Sardis Lake.

Late rally by Fort Gibson dooms Poteau wrestlers

FORT GIBSON — A late surge by the Fort Gibson Tigers wrestling team spelled doom for the Poteau Pirates in Tuesday night's first Class 4A District Dual.
Leaidng 27-12 at the midway point of Tuesday night's dual, the Tigers ended up winning six of the final seven bouts as they rallied for a 44-33 victory — and a leg up on the berth to the Class 4A Dual State Tournament in February.

POCOLA — The Talihina Golden Tigers beat the Pocola Indians 59-46 Friday night in the semifinals of the Choctaw Nation Tournament. Tuesday night when the two teams had their rematch, it was all Pocola.
The Indians used a strong second period to down the Golden Tigers 62-47.
Leading 16-12 after a period, the Indians outscored the Golden Tigers 20-4 in the second quarter to take a 36-16 halftime lead.
Spiro 64, Idabel 55: In Spiro, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 24-11 lead after one period en route to a 36-27 halftime advantage.
