Behind a solid first half on both ends of the floor and balanced scoring, the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings won their Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference opener 64-57 over Western Oklahoma State College on Saturday afternoon in Altus.
Despite getting 20 points from Jaymere Hadden, it wasn't enough for the Carl Albert State College Vikings as they lost their conference opener 87-56 to Western later that night.
Both CASC teams will return to action tonight on the road against Coffeyville, Kan. The women's game will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 8.
OKLAHOMA CITY â€” The Oklahoma City Thunder played very well Friday night at New Orleans and looked to keep on track with a win over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Kevin Durant, who was named the Western Conference Player of the Week on Monday, made sure of that by securing his first triple-double of his career with 25 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the Thunder past the Warriors 119-109.
Four local high school basketball players, Heavener's Trevor Smith, Spiro's Knifeis Carter and Philicea Mack and Wister's Tyler Gibson, have been named as four of the top 100 high school players to watch in the Vype Oklahoma Basketball Preview magazine, which will be out on newsstands at the end of this month including all Tote-A-Poke convenience stores in LeFlore County.
That's quite an honor to be put in such a select group of athletes from state of Oklahoma. Congratulations to all four of you for your honor.
Gans at Cameron, 6:30 and 8 p.m.
STILLWATER â€” As any team approaches a big game, it wants to be playing well. It would appear as if the Oklahoma State Cowboys are doing just that.
After a 44-30 loss to Kansas State on Nov. 3, the Cowboys have eclipsed the 50-point mark in their last two games â€” a 55-34 win over West Virginia on Nov. 10 and Saturday afternoon's 59-21 rout of Texas Tech, both games being played at Boone Pickens Stadium.
TULSA â€” An epic western movie is entitled, â€śHow the West Was Won.â€ť There was a football game Saturday at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium that could have also been described with that title.
Keyarris Garrett caught three touchdowns receptions to lift Tulsa to a 23-21 victory over Central Florida Saturday in a battle of Conference USA division leaders, and a likely preview of the league championship game.
GANS â€” The Cameron High School basketball teams entered the Thanksgiving Week Break by splitting their road games Friday night against Gans.
The Yellowjackets won their third straight game this week by stinging the Grizzlies 57-37, but the Lady â€™Jackets were handled by the Lady Grizzlies 64-32.
The games were originally scheduled for Cameron, but since the gym floor was being redone the games were moved to Gans. The same two schools will hoop it up Nov. 26 at Cameron â€” which was the original date the teams were to have met in Gans.
ARKOMA â€” The 2012-13 basketball season began Thursday night for Arkoma High School, which saw its teams split their openers against Cameron at the Arkoma Gym.
The Lady Mustangs used a late surge to hold off the Lady Yellowjackets 39-33, but the â€™Jackets won for the second straight game as they spoiled the debut of new Arkoma boys coach Chester Johnson as they downed the Mustangs 65-54.
