Thunder showing Lakers they may be better team

May 16, 2012

OKLAHOMA CITY — Los Angeles Lakers didn’t stand a chance, and I really don’t think they have a prayer in this series.
The Oklahoma City Thunder came in to the second round of the Western Conference Playoffs well-rested, and the Lakers came in fresh off a grueling seven-game series with the Denver Nuggets — not to mention the whole Metta World Peace-James Harden incident from their previous meeting looming over this series.

Wister boys lose to Silo in 2A state semifinals

May 15, 2012

OKLAHOMA CITY — When this run of five straight baseball state tournament appearances began in the spring of 2010 for the Wister Wildcats, that season's 2010 Class 2A State Tournament and the fall 2010 Class A State Tournament, the Wildcats suffered losses to the same team — the Silo Rebels. The same ill fate happened to the ’Cats this past weekend.
The Rebels used a six-run fourth inning, then held off Wister potential rallies, to down the Wildcats 7-5 in the Class 2A State Tournament semifinals on a chilly, drizzly Friday night at Dolese Park.

Things didn't quite end the way we hoped this past weekend

May 15, 2012

LeFlore County had two baseball teams — the Wister Wildcats (Class 2A) and the Spiro Bulldogs (Class 3A) — represent us at this past weekend's state tournaments. The bad news was that either, or both, could not come home with the state championship trophy.
The ’Cats got beat by Silo in Friday night's state semifinals, while the ’Dogs suffered a state-quarterfinal loss to Verdigris Thursday night.

May 12, 2012

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Wister Wildcats baseball team is two wins from repeating as Class 2A state champions.
The Wildcats took the first step of repeating as state champs with a 9-4 win over the Oktaha Tigers in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A State Tournament Thursday night at Dolese Park.
The ’Cats (23-2) were slated to play the Silo Rebels Friday night at Dolese Park, with the winner playing the Dale-Tushka winner at 1 p.m. this afternoon in the state title game at Shawnee's Ed Skelton Field.

Spiro boys suffer gut-wrenching state quarterfinal loss to Verdigris

May 12, 2012

EDMOND — If there was any group of individuals asking the question “What if?” it is the Spiro Bulldogs baseball players.
The Bulldogs left the bases loaded twice, and stranded 12 runners on base all total, as they lost a gut-wrenching Class 3A State Tournament quarterfinal contest by a score of 1-0 to the Verdigris Cardinals Thursday night.
The ’Dogs end the season at 22-12.
